Title: What size radial to run
Post by: 6S1730 on October 08, 2026, 04:11:36 PM
66 Shelby with 66 10 Spokes. Pulling the blue streaks off, so what tire size do you guys recommend. I seen one car that had 225/60/14s in front and 245/60/14s in back that looked really good. Thanks for your suggestions

I ran 225/60/14's in the front and 245/60/14's in the rear on my '66 for many years.  Yes, they do give the car an awesome look from the rear.  Running 225/60/14's front and rear since the last tire change.

Did you ever have problems with the 245s rubbing? Any reason yoy went with the same all around

No, I did not have any issues with tire rub. I went with the 225's all around for no particular reason.  Just decided to do something different.

All of my 65/66's, at least those with 14" rims, ran 225/60/14's all the way around without any clearance issues. If your rear springs are soft, or sagging at all, the 245's will rub over bumps and bridge expansion joints frequently.

I'm running 215/70/14's on my 66 with original 10-spokes, just wanted a slightly taller tire. No issues.

I use Goodyear Polyglas radials FR70-14  on Magnum 500's with no clearance issues  ride is much improved over the BF Goodrich tires I was using
Got them from Cocker

Here's a couple. A-arms were lowered and fender lips rolled back when it was raced in the 70's, probably a wash as far as clearance is concerned...

FWIW, the closest equivalent to the Blue Streak 695x14 (24.8" dia. 812 revs/mile) is the 195/70x14 (24.7" dia. 815 revs/mile).  We shod 6S1467 with some BFG T/A Touring in that size:

Not a Shelby owner & not exactly on point but I've driven my Shelby lowered 66 GT hard since 85 and the biggest ties I found to fit in all cases is

225/60-15. (on all 4 corners + spare)
...mounted on 69 Boss Argent Magnums

I standardized on that size bcz my 86 GT came with that sized G-Y Gatorback and I liked having a universal fitment setup.

Now I had HD coils & 5-leafs with a removed rear seat & relocated battery but the only time I scraped/rubbed is if I took a fat chick for a ride.

Rolling the fenders then helped.
