While my FMX is out, I would like to make it look as correct as I can. What color was the tail housing and bellhousing for a '69 GT350? Was the main body cast iron color?
If anyone has a picture of what it is supposed to look like, that would be helpful.
Thanks.
Trick for the case: Seems dry ice blasting is the way to go on the case. Look into that.
Though I may wrong, but to the best of my knowledge the transmission would be "natural" aka. "no paint". Exception "might" be for "over-spray". :)
The aluminum "originally" would have been "bright" as cast; the cast iron gear case was probably brown with surface oxidation (rust) before it left the sales lot. ;)

++1 on reply # 1 and #2
Agreed that unless you have a really nice original or NOS tailshaft housing or bellhousing dry ice is currently the best choice though even it tends to produce a slightly more monotone finish that original. Main case - cast iron can be cleaned may different ways and the exterior finish can be corrected or improved. All the rest it depends on the finished plating or painting
Here is one effort. The camera and lightly makes the main case darker than it was in person. Also the pan is just a used one in the pictures since they didn't want to damage the nice one during installation. The aluminum shows how certain cleaning methods can tend to alter the finish and make it monotone as far as texture and color.
The dipstick tube finish has been covered in a number of earlier threads and the paint marks had not been added at the time that the pictures were taken. No everyone will be going that far nor are "required" in judging for most classes but if you do them they need to be correct or that would be a deduction.
Hope this helps

As for surface rust. IMO it depends a lot on where the car was built and sold. and exposure. Most parts were plated and or oiled to reduce flash rusting though in many parts of the country it was difficult to combat local weather.
Thanks everyone!
