The pinion snubber bracket looks to be integral to the pinion housing, which I thought Ford did not start until around 72. Were the 68's a bolt on pinion snubber??

Not on this application/those rearends.
But the cast pinion retainers with the snubber hood or contact feature was part of 8" rearend center sections since the early 60's
