Auction description:

This 1966 Shelby Mustang GT350 was delivered new to El Paso Ford of Texas and sold to its first owner in November of that year. It was ordered in Sapphire Blue with an optional radio and rear seats, and in the 1990s, the car was outfitted for vintage racing with an R-style front valance and a plexiglass rear window, and the 289ci V8 and four-speed manual transmission were rebuilt at Dralle Engineering of California. The engine is equipped with a Paxton supercharger, a Holley double-pumper carburetor, a Cobra-branded intake plenum, an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake manifold, and an Aviaid aluminum oil pan. The race-prepped interior features a roll bar, fixed-back seats, Simpson harnesses, a Hurst shifter, and a fire-suppression system. The car was driven in VARA and VSCDA events for several years, and it was later displayed in a museum for more than two decades. Acquired by the selling dealer in 2026, this GT350 is now offered in Virginia with a Shelby Auto American Club certificate, logbooks, service records, and a Michigan title.

Copies of initial delivery and purchase documents are presented in the gallery.

Originally finished in Sapphire Blue, the car was repainted many years ago in Wimbledon White with blue over-the-top stripes. The rear bumper has been removed, and a top-vented plexiglass rear window has been installed.

The R-style fiberglass front valance has inlets for brake cooling ducts, and other details include exposed hood pins, an external cutoff switch, a bullet-style side mirror, and side exhaust outlets.

PS Engineering Trans Am 15″ alloy wheels are wrapped in BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires that the selling dealer recommends replacing. GT350s were factory-equipped with Kelsey-Hayes front disc brakes as well as larger rear drums than standard Mustangs, and paperwork attributed to Dralle Engineering indicates chassis reinforcements, upgraded springs, adjustable Koni dampers, and a rear Panhard bar were installed.

The fixed-back bucket seats are trimmed in black vinyl. A roll bar has been added along with Simpson harnesses and a fire-suppression system, and the rear seats have been removed. The Hurst shifter is topped with a cue-ball knob, and a Carroll Shelby signature appears on the right side of the dash.

The simulated wood-rimmed steering wheel sits ahead of Shelby-branded instrumentation consisting of a 160-mph speedometer, a clocked tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. Paxton gauges for manifold pressure and fuel pressure are mounted below the dash. The five-digit odometer shows 6,500 miles, approximately 10 of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.

The selling dealer reports that the 289ci V8 has been fitted with a Paxton supercharger for at least three decades, according to the Shelby American World Registry. The engine is equipped with an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake manifold, a Holley double-pumper carburetor, a Cobra-branded intake plenum, an Aviaid aluminum oil pan, an Edelbrock fuel pump, and long-tube headers linked to a side-exit exhaust system.

Handwritten records indicate it was initially built with .040″-over Keith Black pistons, Crane roller rockers and a solid-lifter camshaft, an Eagle crankshaft and connecting rods, 351W heads, and the Aviaid sump. Dralle Engineering rebuilt the engine in 2000, at which time the pistons rings, crankshaft, connecting rods, and valves and springs were replaced. A 22-gallon fuel cell has also been installed.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Toploader four-speed manual transmission that was rebuilt in 1998, and records denote the car was retrofitted with a 3.70 Detroit Locker at some point.

SAAC documentation is also displayed in the gallery.

VSCDA and VARA log books are included as displayed.

The car is titled as a 1966 Ford using the Shelby VIN SFM6S2168
