Title: T-10 Case / Intake
Post by: 67#0083 on June 26, 2026, 09:56:49 PM
Hi Guys- looking for the experts in the room.

My dad bought #501 a couple of years ago. When it was inspected, he was told the transmission was correct but that the intake was not. The car was restored in the late-'70s and a 3-2V setup was removed at that time and replaced with a "correct" intake.

The T-10 has a cast iron body housing with a 1964 production date of Nov? (K.15.64) and an aluminum tail shaft. I have read mixed opinions on whether or not ALL the '65 T-10s were fully aluminum... Something about aluminum case shortages. The car is obviously a late-build (very end of June) if that is helpful info.

The intake has no other markings besides the small-letter COBRA and, if memory serves, it does have the "Buddy Bar" stamp on the bottom. If it isn't "correct," I'm actually just curious what this intake actually is. It seems to match the 1964 Cobra high-rise intakes I'm seeing online.

We love the car and have zero plans on replacing anything. Just trying to understand what's on it. Thanks very much!

Unfortunately, it's already back in the car.

Not of what was asked, but even if just for my own continuing education, is that the correct thermostat housing?   :-\

That is a most impressive list of cars you and your dad own. I would love that collection.
For what it's worth, I own Carryover #074 which was likely assembled not too long after your car. The T-10 is the reverse of yours with an aluminum case and a cast iron tail shaft.

Here is a post from the late Jim Cowles at Shelby Parts & Restoration back in 2019:

From my experience they pretty much phased out the aluminum T10s right around the time that they went to under ride traction bars.  Ive seen aluminum in cars on the 1000s serial wise  and Ive seen all cast iron as low as in the 1200s. Ive never seen any factory minutes or paperwork showing they mixed and matched alloy with cast iron in the production cars but Ive seen ads for the transmissions that way .  the tailshafts were very fragile and they broke easily

The S1MS intakes were produced by Offenhauser and bear a small OECO stamping underneath on one of the casting plugs.

The short answer is no.
