Title: Importing a car with a Canadian Title.
Post by: Snakebite on May 29, 2026, 04:28:17 PM
Hello All,

I just purchased 6S1575 from a gentleman from Ontario Canada last month.  Picked the car up myself and got all of the required paperwork filled out at the border on my way back to Pennsylvania.  The local notary tells me that there was a new rule passed by Penndot in 2025 that says that all vehicles over 25 years old have to have a PA Enhanced inspection and then receive an "F" on the title, which means that they came from another country.  The enhanced inspection is usually only required for vehicles that have been totaled and put back on the road, at which time they receive an "R" or salvage title.  My inspection guy said has never done one in this situation and the only box on the PA MV-426B that he thinks could apply is "Collectible".  He is afraid that the title will come back with a brand that could devalue the car.  I have checked with other local notaries who are not familiar with this situation either.  Are the any other Pennsylvania members on here who have recent experience with titling an imported vehicle?

Maybe explain that it IS an American car that was built in California and was imported by an owner to Canada and is now merely returning to the US.
I ran into similar problems in CA when I tried to title the SHOGUN prototype that had gone to Canada. I even showed them the original shipping docs and which ship it arrived in CA on and the orig dealer paperwork when it was sold. It even had CA Bureau of Auto Repair certs for the engine swap. In the end CA was not budging so I took it to NV and titled it there. Now it's in Germany and you wouldn't believe the hoops they made that guy jump through.

Years back I bought a '69GT350 at an auction in Reno that had a Canadian title. Had no issues registering it in Nevada.
