This was recently on facebook marketplace, I sent it to Vern telling him he needed to buy it. Guess someone else got there first.

Very cool. Let's pool together, strap a pesky Floridian to the hood, and take it to the Snake River.

That car was at one of the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix events, looked the same then, that had to be before 2016 or 2017.  I posted a couple photos of it but those would have been on the "crashed" SAAC website?

OK, found them, see attached, from 2013.

Question 1 could you really buy a body from a Ford dealer?

If you and/or the dealer had the right connection at FoMoCo, yes, a "body in white" could be procured. All that I have seen (drag and race related) did have a VIN associated with the unibody, but no title, just a bill of sale.

Hey to Pete and all,
To answer your question simply YES you could buy a body from Ford and it would not be made as a car that you could register and title for the street. Most obvious things would be blank unstamped vin
And welded up or plugged and welded seat belt mounting holes. Just the basic needed to build a car for the track.(aka body in white.) This continues still, and you need to have a good Ford contact to make it happen.
You can also buy Truck cabs and frames seperate if needed. Hope this answers 1 question without
Creating more.

Ford also provided information in the Off Highway Parts newsletters in 1972-73 on how to order a body in white to build a race car from. See below.

Also, where they state "no sheet metal forward of the firewall", they are just talking about exterior parts, such as hoods, fenders, valances, etc.

Back YEARS ago i got to go with a ford guy to the dearborn holding yard to pick up a mustang body to make a race car and they were bodys that had mistakes made when being assembled in various stages of being welded together like panels overlaping the wrong way etc. I found some old screw in washer bolts that went thru the frame rails that left the dolly circle marks and they had layers of different color paint build up on the washer head end laying on the ground thrashed away as after a while they get to much paint build up and got pitched .

You can find them (bodys in white) listed in some of the MPC's. Was surprised when I ran across the listing years ago.
