Title: Help!! Sad story
Post by: rsherman on February 24, 2026, 01:59:49 PM
I owned a 1968 GT500KR convertible back in the early 1990s. Hiland green, four speed, black top. I only owned it a couple of years. I received a text from a young man that I taught in Sunday School back in the day. I let him used the car in a parade. He was so enamored by the car that he named his first child Shelby. Without going into a long story, that daughter past away. He had a picture of the car put on the tombstone. He contacted me last week and asked if I had a picture of the car. I can't seem to find a picture. I am tying to track the car a get a picture for him. I sold the car to Gary Garrison from Florida. Any help locating the car and getting a picture would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Well, since you and the person you sold it to, did not tell SAAC you owned the car its going to be difficult to come up with photos.

Do you know where you bought it? Who the original dealership was?

We are trying to help here

I purchased the car from Fred Taylor. I agree I should be able to find pictures and the shelby numbers. But I made a move and apparently misplaced them......
I did find one on line that was exactly like mine but had been totally restored. I sent my friend those pictures and told him that it might or might not be the exact car. But, It was equipped just like the one i had. He was very happy with that outcome. I purchased the car for 12K then sold it for 17K. It sold recently for 198K. Not a very good financial move. :)

For those reading, this is why I always remind those (before you sell the car) to write down the buyer"s name and address to forward THAT to the registrar, to keep the ownership trail up-to-date.

Rsherman

In the hotel parking lot for the national convention we had for BeaverRun circa 2009 there was a Highland green KR convertible, un restored condition, parked next to my KR fastback.
That that photo should be "around," should be available

To the OP: If you can remember the insurance company you used., they would have a record of the VIN

Unfortunately this is usually the end of someone's Shelby involvement and they aren't going to spend the time. Best is just tell the new owner to do it. Maybe all the current owners should put a note in the glovebox with the registrars email and SAAC info.

Also I doubt an insurance company would have any records on a car you sold years ago.
