Title: Question for the collective
Post by: TA Coupe on February 15, 2026, 06:57:14 PM
I belong to several forums as do a lot of you. And I see a number of people on each of them that only come to the forums to use the forums for their own good. IE, to buy, sell or ask for information. But never give anything back to the collective, only use it. It pis*** me off, and I was wondering how others felt?

That's the basic reason, I stopped proffering technical information, on an open format. And another,
pi** you off item, is the rebuke, from the trolls, that say you are wrong.

Most technical information is readily available from various sources, so, I have deduced, they are too
lazy to look up information for themselves.

The "Vintage Shelby Related Literature and Collectibles" section was supposed to resurface and be readily available again but that hasn't happened as of yet.  Too bad.

I don't see it on the home page under "The History" main section.   Also not in my settings showing the list of boards.

I don't see it either. Only 2 headings:  SA history and SA racing history.

I rarely contribute as their are so many more people who can answer a question with 100% certainty when I am only 95% certain. Every now and then ill send a pic in to possibly be submitted to the magazine (Shelby Americana) so I do try to contribute in even a small way if I can.  I am on here a lot more now, now that a lot of the silliness is gone so who knows, maybe Ill see something I can confidently chime in on.

Remember, . . . . an event is only as good as those whom 'participate'.   :)

I don't think I would ever complain about the sharing of information here on this Fourm.

Over the years there have been a lot of guys who have provided information to me when I needed a little help. I was always most appreciative for any of all opinions and information shared, and I made sure I relayed that sentiment. On the few occasions that I could share something to help or confirm information as it related to their Shelby life experience, I was only glad to be a part of the membership.

I personally do not mind those that use the forum for classifieds, I've been able to source difficult to find bits over the years here and other forums over the years.  Not many sources to find some of the more unique items.

I do not mind the question asking, items to sell, or wanted to buy.  Many folks have learned a lot from the questions that have been asked and if I know an answer, I will chime in unless someone else beats me to it.  The Forum has provided me helpful information, which I have used to correct items on my car that were done incorrectly when I restored my car back in 1990.

You may be referring to me but, let me explain.
After reading about Cobras, I saw my first Cobra (CSX 2313) on the streets of Madison, WI in 1965. I became friends with the original owner within a couple of months. In 1972 I purchased 6S 1023 (Green/gold Hertz), followed by 6S 1314 (green with stripes), and 6S 1545 (red, no stripes). I joined SAAC in 1978 and was a member until about 2000 attending some National Conventions and many events at Road America and Watkins Glen. I saved anything and everything (except the cars!) that I thought had value related to Cobras and Shelbys.
I continued to buy and sell over the years and lately I'm selling. I'm in my 80's and rather than see the remaining items I have go in the dumpster I plan on posting them to sell on the Forum.
If someone finds value in them that will be great. If not, well I'll be the one to put them in the dumpster.

".......how others felt?"

I used to be quite active on a couple automotive forums and a machinist forum.  My scope of fluency is pretty narrow.  But within that, can hold my own.  Early on, 20 years ago, I would go out of my way to address a legitimate, technical questions. Often making reference to academic text for further interest. Some I which I published.  In the past 5-10 years it seems younger participants post thoroughly discussed topics without first using the search function, creating redundant threads. In turn, seemingly countless fools will rush to contribute some cornball answer.  When confronted, use the excuse that the medium is a social site and they were prompting conversation among (pretend) friends.  Now better understand why so few people are entering the trades and car hobby.
