Title: My 65 GT 350 clone
Post by: paul on January 03, 2026, 03:18:57 AM
T code, now running a 5 bolt HIPO 289, cast iron T10, 9" Detroit Locker, M1 override traction bars, Konis, lowered A Arms.

Used extra/leftover ORIGINAL Shelby parts:
S1MS small COBRA intake, Buddy Bar valve covers, S1MS T oil pan, 1" sway bar, export brace, 66 Impact tagged lap belts, and a 1966 over the counter wood steering wheel.

Reproduction parts:
Hood, Cragar wheels, service replacement Holley LIST 3259 carb, try Y headers/Branda exhaust, quick steering idler/pitman arms, Montecarlo bar, and hipo fan.

Went a bit overboard but put to good use a bunch of leftover parts I had collected over the years.

Looks great Paul! Drive it like you stole it! You are brave to go with no stripes. Love it!

Paul, Looks great! You previously owning several real 65 GT350's including a real R Model and now the Webered CSX21xx 289 Cobra. Building this clone makes sense, even more so without the stripes. You can drive the daylights out of this car. Smart move.  ;)
Most folks who build clones stripes them.

Cheers

Thank you fellas. This car will provide me with many hours of enjoyment working on it as well as driving it. More updates/pictures to follow.

It's such a nice (not necessarily highly valuable) car that I'm conflicted as how to proceed. As of right now, I do NOT think I'll do the following that I had initially intended:
A) put the GT 350 aluminum plaque on the taillight panel
B) cut the dash for the oil and tach gages and
C) install the the vintage Webber system.

There's nothing better than a set of properly tuned Webbes, in performance or the visual WOW factor under the hood, but I'm partial to the appearance of the conventional 1965 GT 350 intake and carb setup.

Nice job on that.  Even the decision to go with out the "arrest me" stripes over the top.
Don't think there is any reduction of the rear-view mirror paranoia while driving it either.

The limiting cable Aluminum Ferrule in the picture doesn't look like it is properly crimped. Home depot sells the tool to do it properly like it was done at SA back in the day.  https://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-18in-Swaging-Tool-1-8-in-1-16-in-3-32-in-and-3-16-in-43834/205887557 . There is a distinct look to the ferrule when it has been properly crimped with the right tool. You don't want it to come loose which may happen when improperly using a pair of pliers to smash the ferrule. That small detail makes it so it will not come loose plus it looks like a factory job when done.

Wait, wait.  You'll eventually get used to the question of "where are the LeMans stripes".
  Nice job, enjoy.
