Title: West Modine BBF Radiator
Post by: SGT.SNAKE on November 16, 2025, 08:23:44 PM
The following was borrowed from: https://www.428cobrajet.org/id-radiator

"Here are two pictures of West Modine radiator markings with different date codes. These marks are typically covered with a mounting bracket when the radiator is installed in a car:

"W MO" 67-12 (December 1967)"

My question is regarding the date code, on my end tank it reads 66 - 7, clearly that would mean July, right? Which leaves me with, how can I identify its engine size (outside of its inlet & outlet configurations)? any other numbers stamped anywhere, i haven't found a single one?

Not that I can ever remember seeing or have pictures of for a Western MO.

Typically the W MO radiators had a tag soldered onto the far edge (driver side) on top over the metal side strap to ID the application. The tags for the big block would all have same prefix of C7ZE-8005- and then a suffix that was different depending on the application like with manual and no AC it would typically read C7ZE-8005-Y2  . Auto would be different and so on and so forth. It was typical that when the radiator got a new core the radiator shop would many times leave off the tag. I am guess that is what happened to your radiator. Not to worry because AMK Products sells replacement tags to solder onto your radiator and make it look just like factory. I understand you were using the W MO 67-12 dated radiator as a example but FYI that date code would be for 1968 production cars . The 67 big block radiator was a one year radiator and narrower then the wider 24 inch 1968-70 radiators. There may be a 7-67 dated radiator used in a 67 Mustang but I haven't seen one that late before .

Appreciate that tag link.

I'll update with pictures when I get a chance. Definitely is a 66-7, and all visual markers point to a "24" radiator with automatic trans lines at the bottom.

After looking through that list, it should be one of these tags.

C7ZE-8005-D2 RADIATOR TAG - 1967 390/428 MT w/o AC Before 12/66

C7ZE-8005-E2 RADIATOR TAG - 1967 early 390/428 AT w/o AC

A 24 inch radiator is for 68 up the fan shrouds are different too. People use a 24 inch 68 up radiator in 67's for its extra cooling capacity but if you are going for historical accuracy the narrower 22 inch 67 radiator is what you want.

Not trying to be difficult, so I'll wait to measure. I'm positive the date on the end tank is 66 - 7

I'll be buying a brass brush and making a few passes on the date.... I think this is as you mentioned Mr. Gaines, a 68. So, 68-7. After seeing this image on another forum, what I thought was a 6, is most likely an 8.
