Title: Original hood
Post by: cob428 on September 19, 2025, 01:17:37 PM
Purchased an original hood and started stripping. Appears to be original paint, have a question about the rear grille grates. Were the rear grates held in by epoxy? There is a small repair I need to do on the underside, strip and repaint.

Yes sir. It was a type of epoxy prevalent at the time .

If you trying to match it, its a Corvette thing. A bonding agent used for the fiberglas products

The brownish red screen sealer is often painted over black so i would clean it and tape over the sealant when u repaint hood bottom.  I have seen that hood damage from A/C cars rubbing air conditioner units.

+1 . The hood you bought is most likely from a GT350 air car. I have found if a 69/70 GT350 does not use the correct convertible motor mounts the AC compressor upper bracket likely can hit the hood at that point. It is not much of a problem on GT500's
