Title: 1966/67 Automatics getting VIN stamped?
Post by: 68stangcjfb on September 12, 2025, 10:27:32 AM
Were 1966/67 GT350/500 automatic transmissions getting VIN stamped like the 4 speeds usually were?

The placing of the VIN on items like the engine was a Ford thing and they didn't take the time to do it just for Shelby's or other specific cars supplied to other companies to be converted to vehicles like buses, custom trucks and so on. Based on documentation it was an auto thief focused issue and automatics were not often the target of that.

Haven't seen a 66-67 C4 with a VIN and the only C6 I've seen had a VIN applied by the owner/builder or someone else.  Federal requirement for placing VIN's on engines and transmissions (all sizes and models) started in 1968 though companies started stamping a little before the "due date" likely to get a head of the requirement

Sorry no pictures to offer at this time

Yes those happened to be in a Shelby context. On some GT500's but not all.
