That was a very profitable gig. Ford sold him the cars at dealer cost. He added $2,500 (at retail - probably cost him $15-1,800) worth of off the shelf Ford Motorsport parts and some stripes then added 10 grand to the retail price.
He wanted to call them GT350 since Ford was building the GT500 but they would not let him use the trademark so he had to call them Shelby GT.
BTW - your title is clickbait. I had expected an article on Multimatic or FAV.

I prefer to think of him as a student of P. T. Barnum - There's a sucker born every minute.
You could buy the parts for $2,500 and pay 2.25 hours of wrench time to dealer for install and enjoy the exact same performance. Paying $7,000 for a plastic scoop and some tape stripes is just stupid in my mind.

You know that is one way to look at it.l and we truly respect your views.
Same thing an old timer told me once that back in the 1960s he passed on a quite a few 65-66-67 shelby's cause they where only Mustangs with stripes.
Nothing like owning a C. S. M. SHELBY new or old.
God bless the USA
