Is there a place I can download SAAC div II judging sheets for 1968 Shelbys? I'd like to know what is acceptable in regards to finishes and the like(like painted leaf springs or other pieces that are natural metal). Thanks. Gary
Currently there is not a page or site where you can down load past or current Judging sheets. In most cases if they were made available the version available would be from the prior year.
As to your question about what is acceptable as far as "natural surfaces" goes of course the first and best choice would be the original finish and or plating the part originally received but this year the guidelines read as follows but be aware there is always discussions on this subject since Division II is not a "Driven" class.
All finishes as original (finishes may be replicated as long as parts attain original appearance)
"Natural finishes" IMO is a terrible name or term since it includes any finish that is not originally painted including non-chrome plated, coated or colored/dyed (due to the production process) finishes. Confuses some into believing it means, bare steel, which is not the case.
One of the challenges is that some or many of the parts listed in the finish have multiple finishes such as cast, heat treated, oil quenched and machined. Difficult to do if you don't want them to look painted - a deduction.
Hope this helps
Thanks as always Jeff.
Eastwood zinc phosphate is typically too dark for most phosphate items under the hood IMO but acceptable looking to replicate the heat treated spring steel of the leaf springs if going the painted route. I would strip any paint put on them for best final finish and after painting is done and springs are banded add T9 or equivalent over the paint just like if it were bare metal.Thats for protection when the leafs rub through the paint after many flexing of the leafs against each other plus it enhances he finish IMO. Cosmoline was typically applied to the leafs at he mfg. the T9 somewhat replicates that look.
For those that might not know, the "T9" Bob is referring to is "Boeshield T9"
Since rear springs were mentioned remember that the clamps were not processed or made the same way nor were they the same material so they will have a different "lighter" looking final look to them. One of those few just bare new steel looks I referred to above.
