Hello everyone my girl is ready for some new tires plus an alignment. She is wearing her painted mags, but tires are extremely small looking to me. Just wondering what everyone is running and pictures of stance and size would be awesome. I'm doing a lot more driving than showing....Thanks for any help.
Here's a thread which might be helpful.

easy peasy, take off the original rims and put them away.
go out and purchase a set of wheels and tires that you like.
we opted for a set of 305-60-15 (going off memory- will have someone check) BF Goodrich TAs for our daily drives.
then when we feel "concoursial" we swap out to the original look
Enjoy your ride!

Firestone FR70-14
This is my car, 937, with the incorrect chrome wheels when I bought it and now with the original painted Magnums. I hope this helps.
Wow she looks great...are you having any problems running bias. I'm wondering should I be on radials as I drive her a lot

You do if you want to have the best overall ride. At least on a street driven car. IMO for a street /pleasure driven car the only time to ride on bias ply tires is if they are the correct size and MFG for historical correct purpose's. The ride on the vast majority of bias ply tires is so dramatically worse then even a cheap set of comparable size radial tires.
My 2 cents is if the Shelby's tires have raised white letters and have anything but Goodyear they should be blacked out. But that is just the historical sensibilities ingrained in me.

You might want to go back and edit the tire size. Because them suckers is going to be about a foot wide.🤣🤣

Those are not bias...they are the "bias look" radials. They handle and ride beautifully.

I agree Bob, but I did not want to start grinding the Wide Oval off without having experience doing it. I need a donor tire to practice on and then I will do it. I really wanted it to just have the small Firestone.
I also wish that Goodyear made a similar tire in a radial.

Nick, you don't have to grind anything off to black out the white letters. After wiping them down clean for best results you can black out the side wall with a can of semi gloss Krylon . It holds up for years and if touch up is needed like if you hit a curb that blending takes about 2 seconds. I do it to the BFG tires all of the time .

Seriously? Which Krylon...any of their semi-gloss finishes? They seem to have so many now.
It looks acceptable and really does not look bad?
Thanks Bob
I've been running BFG's for the last six or so years. I've got 215/60 14's in front and 235/60 14's in the rear.

Yes Krylon . If it says semi gloss your good. It blends in well you typically do not have to do the entire tire sidewall . I just do the area that has the white letters. If has fooled a lot of people over the years.I remember about 30 years ago or so when the reissue F60 15 Goodyear re issue tires first came out they were the 1970 version with the tire size. Well I was showing my 69 Shelby at a car show and blacked out the tire size so that they looked like the correct no size 69 tires. My friend Ed Meyer came by and looked at them and it took him a few seconds too long to realize what I did. Although the same size and style letters the clocking of the various white letters are different between 69 and 70 which was the "tell" that tipped him. That
satisfying encounter sold be on the technique from that time forward to get rid of unwanted lettering on driver car tires.
just got word that the BFGOODRICH tires we use are 215 60 R 15

Kelsey does have a Goodyear bias ply sidewall look radial. For a '66 with 14 inch wheels, could just black out "Polyglass" and tire size, as an option.
Those Goodyear are nice, but they are over $500 each....pricey.

FR70 would be pretty tall wouldn't they? Possible front fender rubbing, especially if the Shelby drop has been done.
I put a set of them on 6S1431. Yes, they were expensive but the ride and handling are much improved over the BF Goodrich T/A's I had on the car.
I don't have the Shelby Drop and the only time they rub is at a full lock turn against the inner frame rail
I like the look and to me they were worth the price

No issues at all...even with my stance.
Steve, it looks great 8)
FWIW, a few years ago, I put on 195/70x14 BFG Touring T/A's. They have a diameter of 24.74 inches and the originally spec'd Goodyear Blue Streaks have a diameter of 24.83 inches. They are non-white lettered and look very believable on the car and are reasonably easy to steer when parking, turning, etc. Fairly difficult to find but stock is out there.
