I am looking for SHELBY aftermarket Valve covers for 351 Cleveland/ Boss 302 Heads. Thanks you
I assume you're looking for ones like I have on my engine. I also run a "Clevor" but one like you've never seen before. I run a 2X4 1967 Trans AM intake on it. I'll add a couple of pictures of it. I also have 2 extra Shelby valve covers. But I'm not sure if I want to sell them so make me an offer and I will consider it.
Roy
That looks awesome. I have two possibilities I'm working with right now. lets see how they pan out!
Those are very similar to the Motorsport B351 heads that I had. Are yours aluminum or iron and what do the exhaust ports look like?
They are basically a 2bbl Australian closed chamber head except with a Windsor intake port. Heads are iron. Here's a different picture of them and a picture of the exhaust port on my Australian 2bbl heads.
Roy
Do they have Australian casting numbers or SK? 2.19/1.71 or 2.05/1.60 valves?
The b351 heads had raised exhaust ports. Raised intake ports and took smaller valves, not the stock Boss size. I thought they were down on power and went with A3 heads.
Yours match up with the C60A because of the Windsor ports? They are 351w port sizes?
I'd love to have a pair of those Shelby valve covers - but they won't clear my stud girdle. I've got a pair of aluminum Moroso tall covers on it and even those required moving the breather hole. I sure wish I could weld like the guy that did them. I could machine out a spacer but I never liked the look of that.
Will "normal" headers fit the A3 heads? I'm leaning toward building "Lowster" with the dry sump engine and QC out of my GT1 car. The current driver side headers are routed over the top of the bellhousing and everything exits on the R side.

The A3 heads have a unique flange and there are two versions. Early and late. Mine are early with late flanges that I had to modify to make fit but are in my Pantera and those are 180 degree, up and over headers anyway. Made by Stan up at FPP for Hall.
JBA actually made a few sets of headers to fit the 67-8 Mustang chassis with the A3 heads and 351c block. Why? I talked him into it and John Barnes and I were running a C in the car. So it looked like there would be some demand based upon that.
Whether or not he has any now or even the details to make a set now on order, is another question altogether?
Whether YOU can modify them to fit your application is up to you I suppose?
When I build headers they wind up weighing more then iron manifolds so I learned to stay away from that. Anyone's is better then mine.
Because of the raised exhaust ports on the A3 heads, the turn down from the flange in the 67-8 chassis is very tight with a 9.2 block, even worse with a 9.5 "Clevor" but an A3 head on a 8.2 block would likely fit well but no one ever built those headers that I know of?
At this point, those heads and that series are historic anomalies/artifacts with their own group of followers and you likely will need to build your own headers no matter what you put them in?
The headers for my Pantera were $650 from Hall back 30 years ago. Now try a starting price of $3,500, and "you need to leave the car with the guy to build them".
As far as the stud girdles that you are running, I think that is just a function of bracing for a really big cam lift. I am running a .605" lift Compcams cam with roller rockers on 7/16" studs in my Pantera and for it the girdle really is overkill.
With that set up I am running the Detomaso version of those Shelby valve covers. The same things, just different logos.
O.
I remember Gratiot Auto in Detroit selling those Shelby covers for $18 a pair. Sometimes it does not pay to remember things like that? Incidentally, when is the last time you saw a Shelby logo oil pan for sale? So you think the Cobra pan is expensive? Shelby pan is almost double now.

Intake port is much larger than a regular W port. I don't remember what any of the casting numbers are but the heads were originally done by Valley Head service in the LA area. I don't remember the valve sizes, I just gave them to my engine builder with some Manley Boss valves which he cut to size.
98SVT - was 06GT. Looks like your running Jomar stud girdles. I've got a Jomar set for Windsor heads.
Doug, I ran across a set of NOS Pantera VC's a few years ago and they were very thin and lite weight. I think the guy was asking $125 and I almost bought them.

I have a 2x4 Shelby intake for a Boss 302 I may sell sometime.

Scientifically I can't comment on the port sizes. They do look like an in between size?
On the Cleveland aluminum finned valve covers, the Shelby and Detomaso versions seem to have the exact interior details with the provisions for the Boss drippers, but undrilled. In fact, I would go out on a limb saying that they are the same as the Boss covers except for the logos added.
I've used all three and still have an extra Detomaso pair hanging on the wall.
If I hadn't sold and traded parts over the last 40 years and kept them all, I would have run out of every square inch of room for me to live in.
My Pantera is the only Cleveland left for me. My GT350 I went back to the original small block, with a 347 kit and AFR heads.
I think that you were involved in the discussion of your special heads with Randy last year or two years ago and he was pointing out the details.
I don't remember that discussion exactly but maybe there were no casting id's on those heads?
I did expect them to have raised exhaust ports though like the Motorsport aluminum heads.
I personally don't think you need girdles with Clevo heads until you go to NASCAR type valve lifts like in the 700's? Even on race cars they are problematic since they get in the way of adjusting the valves. I go without it BUT I am not beating my cars on the track at 8,000 rpm.

That is a very interesting creature.

I hear you Doug!! My problem is that I have kept 85% of all the stuff I bought over the years and even after building a 2850sq ft garage and mancave and having a 20x20 mancave in the house plus a 3 car attached garage I could still use more room. 14 cars, thousands parts over 5000 magazines and hundreds of pieces of memorabilia will do that to you. Here's a link to a video I took at little while after it was built for anyone interested:

A few pics of the garage and mancave.
Time for me to start selling more stuff.

I agree that it is very sexy and I am highly attracted to it.
I talked to Randy about one and he said they have problems unlike the C60A and run lean on two cylinders? Just as well. The price on that one was $4,500.
It is rather unique and "interesting" though.
Don't know why the mancave picture didn't show up. Also pictures of the barn doors I had made to separate the garage from the mancave. 8ft and 230lbs ea.
Roy
Nice inventory of goodies!
Love the punch buggies
My only critique of your fortress of solitude is "only 11 security cameras protecting all that precious booty"

I chose the simpler route. I sold off the parts I would never use again and really never looked back. Who knew gold would go for over $3,400 an ounce?

Same here. Sold all my 'junk' (LOL), that I will never use. The horder 'disease' is cured and gone...
thanks to a fellow Saacforum member 68GT500CS, I now have the Valve covers and a new friend in the Shelby community!
daltondavid, I like your age in your profile "249" you ARE older than dirt. That's almost as good as the temperature here.

It's much cooler if you express it in C - only 128
