I purchased a used one and had a guy re wrap it. He did it without a seam. Currently modding up a pair of surfboard hooks. Before and after pictures.
Looks good from what I can see. I am not sure how he can wrap it without some kind of seam but more power to you if you can.
He vinyl seamed it to where you are not able to see it. Did a great job.
So far using a tee bolt from a turbo clamp that is rounded not flat topped. 3/4 wide. Cut and welded to straight since the bolt has a angle when purchased with clamp. Will machine/drill holes on each end to attach the chest latch clip only to it. I drilled the rollbar from center 12 inches each way so a 22-19 wide surfboard fits.
Should look like this when done and installed on second picture. This was the $22 way to make them.

I recall a small washer under the loop

A small chrome washer to be exact. I found those at my local better supplied hardware store that offered various small chrome fasteners.
Sure his name is Arron and lives in Umatilla Oregon 1-541-561-4187 Does great vinal repair. $200
I have those chrome washers and will add them when I figure out the bolt/duck mouth clip situation. So far I found that a wire feed welder is not the way to go. Will have to be a tig welder. Wire feed just spreads out to far on the threads. Still working on this.
The Granger tee ended up being 1/2 inch bolt instead of the 1/4 20.
See there is a Orig roll bar on ebay. The washer is at least 1 inch across.

3/4 inch when you measure it in person.
Thanks Bob, after spending time with the picture and playing with washer sizes, I did come to the same conclusion.
The Tee is 5/8 wide washer 3/4 and buckle clip seams to be 2 inch wide and 1 inch high. The Orig looks just like a adjustable slide buckle for a belt. My first picture looks like a box latch clip style. Still working on it and found the buckles through a crafting outfit. Under $18
This is as close to the original one showen on elsy website. Also thicker and stronger for the straps.
maybe these images will help you:
The original tie downs are cool looking but more cosmetic then functional IMO. You would not want to depend on them securing anything heavy or that could catch the wind going down the road. That is if you didn't want to invoke Murphy's law. ;) The loop section is only secured by flexing ends of the metal loop into a hole made into the Tee section. It doesn't take too much fussing with them for the ends of the loop to come loose out of the Tee.
Interesting how Shelby threaded on the lower side of the rollbar only leaving 1/4/ 1/2 inch of padding to cover the bolt. Not using a bolt that was threaded the full length. I am using 1/4 20 currently but could change up to 1/2 tee bolt from Granger.
I see why it would not hold and have possible bolt stripping or braking off inside.
In my opinion it would of been nice to tread both top and bottom of the bar with a 1/2 full threaded tee and using a larger buckle. I'm sure at the time they went with what was available. More choices for today.

Thank you for the info will relay to Big Mike from Miami
Received the 4 adjustable bag straps and 4 of the shoulder covers that will help hold the board down without the strap scratching up the board. Still working forward, May change up larger size to 1/2 Tee since I want it for a purpose for showing with the board. No I do not surf but like the look. Never seen one at a show.
Going to build a 67 Shelby convertible mod, I use to own one at one time and plan to build a better one.
My plan is to give each grandson a convertible down the road. Teach them about classics to get this generation interested. As you can see in the last picture I started with pedal cars. LOL
68 mustang GT/CS convert mod is my current car.
Similar to this picture.
Similar to picture. But I think a 7ft board would look better then the 6ft.
Still working on something similar.
Almost ready for tig welding.
Ground off the bolt head down to a thin top but not all the way so it goes through the washer. Once the tig welding starts the washer and tee can all be welding together. Just Ordered the Duck-Mouth stainless steel buckles. Ordered them through AliExpress. Only cost .99 cents. 1 inch wide and 3/4 to 1 inch tall buckle part. Currently drilling holes in the tees to install the buckles when they arrive.
I filed the burrs off on the back so the washer could rest tight. Using a nut i can level out the washer before welding.
I now know the center to center measurement is 32 3/8 for the surfboard mounts but since my car will not be original I did 24 inch to better secure the board so not to slide side to side.
First attempt on the right failed, ground off bolt head was to thin. So the welder came up with stamping out a washer to exact thread in stainless little thicker at 7/8 wide and used thread all and cut off to 1 inch. Use tig at lowest setting and thin wire. Picture to the left. Buff when done and to keep the washer straight and flat use a 1/4 20 nut to level out and use anti seize on the thread for the nut. Wire brush threads after you take the nut off.
Buckle still on it's way.
Installed the 1 inch wide 1/2 tall buckle to see how it would look. As soon as the 3/4 wide 3/4 tall one comes in I will install in the other one and show comparison.

Nice !
For the small box latch buckle, the size of the buckle is 3/4 x 3/4. The actual size in the second picture on left is not 2 inch wide but 1 inch wide and 1/2 inch tall. To the right is the 3/4 x 3/4. Neither are the same size as the original at 1 inch wide and 3/4 tall. Up to you on which size to us when building a pair. I have extra buckles of the 1 inch by 1/2 if you want a couple to try and like the look.
As for me I found these at Walmart online and like the look. They were $3.00 each. Since my car will be a mod.
Working getting a 7ft surfboard now. Will post final look with the board when I am able.
Hope everyone enjoyed the journey of this posting so far.
