Good afternoon SAAC, hoping someone could guide me to a resource about 1965 K code coupe production. I've Googled it and it's come back with "no real information about that exists"? Maybe that's true, does anyone know otherwise?
Thanks in advance, Scott
I think the best you're going to get is an estimate, there are currently no records available for 1965 Mustangs.
I would be careful, because have exploited that fact and built a lot of fakes
Thank you... I have my eye on one, but have read alot to your point. The block # stamp matches the trans # and the apron stamp and many other "validating" stamp/castings are correct...just being cautious. It is not a GT and that's what I have read also is very low production numbers...most buyers went ahead and said why not, add the GT to my order.
Keep in mind that the GT option wasn't available until around mid March, so any K codes built before then couldn't be GTs.
Thanks KA Convertible, correct... this is Oct 30 build date.. just truly not a GT...no frame rail exhaust inside reinforcement, no exhaust reinforcement behind the back seat etc. Head castings are correct as well as inside after pulling the valve cover.
With that date, it probably had that "other" dual exhaust system which used different bracketry.
Way back in the '80s, Tony Gregory published a book that highlighted K-code Mustang characteristics.
I'm not an expert, but I'm pretty sure all dual exhaust cars had the reinforcements under the back seat and in the frame rails along with the different snubber bracket and brake line relocated, with both systems Arvinode or mufflers.
There is also a difference between the early 65 9 inch snubber plate in the floor compared to the later 65-70 snubber plate.
This car was identified as a candidate for the Arvinode system but cannot be confirmed. I was under the impression that only factory GT got the frame rail and behind back seat reinforcement additions...am I incorrect? I have Tony's book, 4th edition and am pouring over it...again.

Incorrect. The rear frame rail reinforcement and the behind the seat reinforcement came on cars with factory duel exhaust regardless of if GT or non GT.
Awesome, thanks Bob!
I looked at an early unmolested 65 K about 25years ago and I recall the attachment point on the frame being more forward than what is normally seen on 65 and 66 cars. If you don't see it in the normal place, it may be further up the frame toward the axle.
At the time I didn't know about the Arvinode system so I didn't pay much attention to rest of the exhaust.
These guys make a concours reproduction system and the rear seat hangers look to be different and maybe mounted more inboard. https://waldronexhaust.com/product/1965-69-ford-mustang-concours-model-arvinode-dual-exhaust/
There is also this MotorTrend article with a picture Charles Turner provided from a system he removed. Try reaching out to see if he can shed any more light on what to look for https://www.motortrend.com/how-to/mump-0907-arvinode-dual-exhaust-1965-hi-po-289-engine
Good luck
Thank you sg66 !
