Actually pretty accurate. They omitted the frame damage Les Linley's (not Linsey) car got when they slid it into the center channel of the river. It also sucked in so much water it hydrolocked the engine. Duane Bower (not Bowers) car got the first damage when the Ferrari Mirror was thrown back on it at the start of the race and dented the nose.
The contract required the cars to be returned to the condition they were in when rented. Les's car got the most damage and he was pretty disappointed with it when returned - which is why it sat. Duane had them repaint his car black. He got it back just before SAAC 1 and drove it to the Convention. We caravanned up with Lynn Park 289 and Tom McIntire 427 with a 65 & 68 GT350. Duane being an LAPD cop went on his own at a much higher rate of speed........ His car did sustain damage at SAAC 1 when some idiot leaned in to look and left a palm sized dent by the rollbar.
Only 1 Ferrari required repairs after the shoot. But, they were substantial. When it was driven into the back of the truck for service the stuntman didn't get on the brakes fast enough and drove it through the front of the trailer and into the back of the truck cab, BTW - it wasn't John Morton who was a stunt driver on this movie. He had done some movie driving in the past - road & drag racing but this was his first gig to be paid as a "stunt driver".
