Looking for a C5OF-12127-E distributor for a 1966 GT350. Rebuilt or rebuildable

What date code are you looking for? Or are you open for any date code up to say 1970? They would all be C5OF-12127-E, there are a few on Ebay.

I'd prefer an early 1965 date code and most of the ones on ebay are later and/or service builds. When I got my car it had a Mallory dual point in it and it works okay and doesn't stick out too much if you paint the red Mallory cap black. I need to replace points, cap and rotor now and I'm exploring trying to put it back as it should be or keeping the Mallory with new parts or Mallory with Pertronix. Thanks.

Did you say it was for 66? Early 65 date too early even for carryover. Whats car build date or #?

I was thinking that my car 6S209 would have been built at the end of the 65 model year and the engine would have been a bit before that and the distributor would have been built before that --- all that would take you close to the start of the calendar year ( I should have stated that I was talking early calendar year). Does that make sense?

In other words you made a mistake. We all make them. Unless everything else on your car is dated correctly I wouldn't worry about a date code. In concours venues for example like SACC DIV II or MCA trailered concours, dates + or - are not considered for deductions or extra points. In fact it is hard if not impossible to typically read the date code without aid once installed. Arguably a little later then mid 65 date would be a safe code for the engine to be born with IMO.

Maybe you can look for one made a little before May 65. Good luck & hope this helps

Of course a possible date but not that likely IMO. If a C5OF-E duel point it is still the correct model distributor for the application however.

209 being a carryover probably would've built in July to early August 65. I would think a distributor around May June 1965 would be perfect.

Better yet if the car still has the original engine a closer way to estimate when the engine was assembled at Cleveland engine plant since the distributor was installed in the engine there. Better choice IMO than guessing using the Shelby or Ford VIN of you have the original block. 

Think the May will still likely be a good month based on other cars very similar to yours

when we bought our 1966 it came with an additional distributor, don't know what year but it's a C5OF-12127-E distributor
