Title: Rear drum brakes replacement parts
Post by: traxman on June 28, 2025, 12:26:36 AM
Hello everyone,

I'm in the process of replacing the internal and wear components of the rear drum brakes as part of the restoration of 6S779.

I'm looking for part numbers for the wheel cylinders as well as the drum brake shoes.

Being in Europe, the selection seems more limited than in the US (shipping and customs fees are quite significant for small purchases like this). While it's relatively easy to find (almost) everything you need for classic Mustangs, it becomes much more complicated when it comes to more specific parts (like these Fairlane brakes).

Could you please confirm whether the following parts are compatible and appropriate for our 2.5-inch rear drums?

- Rear wheel cylinder: DORMAN W59240 / W59241
I selected this part because Cobra-Automotive recommends 1-inch cylinders, but I'm open to other suggestions (I have no experience in this area).
These parts appear to be made in China; I would have preferred something Made in USA, but I can't seem to find any. Do you know of any alternatives? (Ideally something available in Europe...)

- Brake shoes: Raybestos 169PG

- Spring kit: DORMAN HW7045

Thank you,
Have a nice day,
Anthony

The original Ford wheel cylinders are C3OZ-2261-B and C3OZ-2262-B with a 29/32" bore size. If you search for those part numbers you should find lots of aftermarket choices, Wagner, Dorman, Raybestos, etc.

Look at "Rock Auto" they seem to have the best prices and you can select your quality.

From my notes:

These are Centric numbers, so can be crossed to another brand.

Shoes: 111.05810
Drums:123.65007
Wheel cylinders: 135.64001, 135.64002

Hardware is a Raybestos number H7143

Save and re-use the "nails" that attach the brake shoes to the backing plates if possible. I bought hardware kits from three different suppliers, all advertised for 2 1/2" brake shoes, and the nails in the kits are about 1/8" too short. Virginia Mustang sells the correct length nails separately if you need them. That 1/8" makes all the difference installing the shoes.

Virginia Mustang is out of stock and looks like discontinued them. Instead of back order like was written on my invoice for another item it said out of stock and cancelled which seemed to indicate they will not coming back.

The Ford part# for these is B7T-2069-A. You can still occasionally find them on ebay, or use the Ford # to cross reference aftermarket parts.

Following up on Bob Gaines reply—definitely keep the "nails." Do whatever you can to use them again.
