Good afternoon,
I just had a conversation with a colleague who I work with in the healthcare industry. Long story short, he saw an elderly female client today in her home. During the visit, she claimed that she still owns an original 289 Cobra which she bought new. Owner lives in the Upper Valley Region of New Hampshire.
Does anyone know of this car?
Thanks!
Terry H.
We are currently aware of two 289 Cobras in the state of NH, both of which have had multiple owners. If the car described actually exists, it's hard to imagine how it has escaped scrutiny for the past 50 years.

Are you sure she didn't mean she was the original owner of a Factory Five Cobra that she bought new? Lol.
Careful with specifics. An elderly woman with a valuable asset in her garage could be a lucrative target. And as our scammers prove, not all viewers of this site are honest.

My thoughts exactly Ned. If and when I'm able to verify any of this, I'll be back in touch. Much appreciated.

Dan, we know of a green 427 in NH and two red, one blue, and one green one in MA. What color was the car you saw?
I bought a 65 Shelby awhile back from a guy....
And under the car cover was a 289 Cobra just sitting there...
He had bought the GT 350 in 1969 ....
was in the mid Atlantic area? if so I think I know the car
I hope the 427 that looked original was mine but it doesn't spend a lot of time on a trailer.
This car was a red street car. You never know what lurks in the woods of NH 8)
We list no red 289s in NH but have 4 in the Registry in MA.

Absolutely true.
Ned you are presuming that the ownership of the "mystery car" does not pre-date both you and I.
Ordinarily I'd offer para mutuals in the 6-5 vicinity in favor but now that I'm older and more suspicious, I'd still go even money.
Strange in this case is normal. I don't know of any banjo playing recluses there but the woods get very deep in NH. Spooky in fact.

I didn't think any Cobra has escaped Ned's little notepad he always carries around. His actual eyes on cars and the notes he's kept over the years have certainly added greatly to the history and provenance of these cars.
Well...a nice thought, but if a family did acquire a Cobra way back when, and just drove it around their small town occasionally, never sharing any information about it...maybe the unknown car could yet exist up in the wilds of NH. But the idea that no one in 60 years has said, til now, "Hey, I saw a Cobra up in East Goshawful yesterday - anyone know anything about it?" is hard to accept.

Well, not to disparage original Cobra owners alone. I suppose it applies to some other people as well, but they are some of the most "unique people" that I have ever encountered. In my case, that speaks volumes and is an understatement.
I had one Cobra owners father tell me, "I thought it was just a 'Healy' with bumps".
Who said the car has even been driven in 57 years? Most of those folks who would likely remember the car are dead.
There was an infamous baseball character, now known as a baseball legend, named Casey Stengle. On his 75thbirthday a reporter asked him how many friends he had. His reply, "most of the people my age are dead". I say Amen to that.
My 66 GT350 convertible was just an old Mustang . Cobra and Shelby did live in the barn for a while.
