Title: Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, what has been your experience
Post by: Mikelj5S230 on June 17, 2025, 11:39:07 AM
I recently had a blowout of my right rear Cup 2 tire after only 6400 miles, and it was worn clear through to the cord. Anyone had any similar extremely quick wear out of these lousy tires?

I had them on my CTS-V.  Managed to get 9,000 out of them.  They are a really soft compound for handling and do not last. Quit lighting 'em up!! Lol   8)

thread goes away very quickly on cup2s... i would just check the tire after each session.

we usually run em till they get corded.. they dont last too long.. maybe 3 to 4 full track days...

this is an expensive hobby, changing to crochet

He has plenty of "thread", just no tread.

Yes, they are really soft. I went through two sets and got around 4,000 miles on both. I won't be fooled again.

The wear number means nothing at all. Purely fictitious.

I think I will replace them with Pilot Sport 4+ AS ZP.

If you daily drive the PS4 are much better

But the PS2 on a dry track are a much better choice

Tires that get good mileage and give you optimal grip still have not been invented

Please call me when they do
Gracias

I don't know what size you are running but I use Continental Extreme Contact Sport 02 which have been replaced by Sport Contact 7. The Extreme Contact are quiet, good in the rain and the tire surface temperature would warm up with normal driving even in New England which aided me in traction. I threw out the BF Goodrich tires I first put on the car because  in second gear the car would always kick slightly sideways. -Kevin

I never track the car, but want traction in wet and cold conditions too. The Cup 2s were great for grip when warm and dry, and so soft and sticky when hot they would pick up sand on my dirt road. But the lousy wear and hydroplaning potential is unacceptable.

I'm on my third set of tires on my 2020 GT350. I have 8,500 miles, with probably 15 track days.
I have never had any complaints with my tires, they handle quite well.

Had a set on my last Boxster S, they lasted a few (2) track days, and about 7,500 miles of street driving before I sold the car. I'd buy another set if I had something worthy.

The Contis are great tires.

Highly recommended

Although we have not used these two brands

Falken Azenis RT 660 and the Lionhart brand    we have friends that are highly impressed with the performance and much lower cost compared to the big name brands.

Check them out maybe something you would like to consider

Go Panthers!

I had many germany and American cars and Michelin and Conti never were good enough on these. I like the Toyo R888R and I had some Nittos which were impressive. In my opinion they are a better choice.

Both great choices, kinda like the 555RII and a very honorable mention to the Hoosiers R7s

Hang on tight and be safe out there !

I put the Michelin Pilot AS sports on my 2013 GT500.  They are great for daily driving as I do with the car when there isn't snow/salt on the roads.  I have been on several road courses with the tires and they handle pretty well on the track, but you will fell the difference if you push it to hard.
