Title: Oil capacity

How many quarts should I use in my 67 GT500 with a stock oil pan. It has AC and the factory oil cooler setup.

Good question. Only A/C 67 and 68 GT500 cars received the oil cooler plus a extra short oil filter(from the factory) for ground clearance. The shorter yet same diameter oil filter used on this special application has a decreased oil capacity compared to a typical stock FL1 oil filter.
There is not a listing for the extra capacity that the oil cooler and lines adds in any Ford documentation that I am aware of. I would start with a half a quart then run the engine and re check. Add oil if any as needed. Of course things are dependent on if you use the short filter like factory on the A/C application or the longer filter.

Draining the oil cooler and lines is not part of the typical oil change process. Some of the oil will drain back from the cooler but certainly not all.

Start with 5 Qts run the engine then check and only add oil if needed. If on a A/C car with oil cooler and the factory short oil filter(for this application) it will probably only need a little extra vs. the longer filter which will require a little more.

Best of luck

If you are starting with a dry engine on a oil cooler equipped car that has not been run expect to add 6 quarts. If changing oil and filter for the first time or tenth time add 5 qts and top off as needed.

Thank you. I am using the standard long filter.

Many use that standard FL1 filter on the 67/68 oil cooler cars not knowing any better. I know of many that have used the long filter without a problem and only a few that have had problems. You have to be careful because it hangs down much lower. Of course in concours it is points deducted if the short orange Fram filter or something that looks like it is not used.

You could use the later ford fl-1a as it a little shorter.
