1965 SHELBY MUSTANG GT350
SFM5S137
5S137 was sold new by Turner Ford of Wichita, KS. It was used by its original owner for approx. 2 years and then sold to the second owner who added air conditioning.
According to the Shelby Registry, the 2nd owner said the AC ruined the performance of the Shelby.
Eventually (2004) the GT350 made its way to Jim Cowles/Shelby Parts & Restoration of Green Bay, WI, where it was subjected to a comprehensive restoration (and the AC removed) by a noted expert.
After the restoration it has traded a few times and now is showing 800 miles accumulated since then.
The glove box door has been signed by Carroll Shelby.
Shelby used the 289 CI HIPO V-8 with a Holley 4-barrel 715cfm carburetor. This motor was mated to a four-speed manual T-10 transmission with a Detroit Locker rear axle.
Stopping power was supplied by front disc brakes and heavy-duty rear drums. The front suspension was lowered, and Koni shocks were added.
Rear seats were removed for weight savings and replaced with a fiberglass package tray where the spare tire mount was relocated from the trunk.
Wheels were 15-inch Cragar alloys wearing Goodyear Blue Dot tires. A 16-inch wood steering wheel was sourced from the Cobra.
RM Sotheby's is offering this GT350 at Monterey, CA in August.

Life can be funny !
This is not the history I documented on this car when I owned it in the 90's.
Mr Vinnie knows the story "in full ", so did Big Jim Cowles
John
Just a casual observation a "nice car" endorsement from certain members always seems to be a kiss of death for a car

Did the history change ??
The Sotheby's listing still does not include a description for this car. Now I am curious to see what that says!
Im going to post the description of the 1968 that just sold on Mecum. That should be amusing

From whats reported above, yes !
Lets just say that this 65 had a higher price than other 65 shelby's from Shelby.
Mr Vinny knows the details that I gave him in the 90's

So do tell .... on this "nice car"
P.S. to the young, just born, innocent and naive
I wondered why he said that....lol !
For the record, this car sold for $500K. Not sure if that includes the buyer's fees - anyone know?

That's an intriguing teaser. I'll take the bait.
Perhaps this car
is special? even one of the hundreds of special 'prototype' 65 GT-350s?
Seeing that this car was especially equipped by Shelby American with a 1966 RR wheelhouse in 1965 in anticipation of future proposed model changes, I would think could enhance its value.
