I recently viewed a post about a fellow SAAC member that posted his love affair with his particular Shelby. I thought it was just a spectacular finding.
So with that said, this is my story on one of our cars.
The production of the 2016 Ford Shelby GT-H began in early 2016, with the limited edition cars becoming available for rent through Hertz starting Memorial Day weekend.
The release was timed to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the original GT350-H.
Specifically these GT-H models were produced for the Hertz Adrenaline Collection at select airport locations across the continental United States.
It was the Fort Lauderdale International Airport where I first saw our Cult Car.
At the time I had a contact at the Hertz Corporation and I gave him a call. We quickly caught up on events, other friends and family.
Then we expressed that we wanted one of the 172 Legends made. I gave him the V.I.N. and Shelby C.S.M. number. He responded with, not a problem.
Months went by and I recieved a call from "the friend". He said cars are going to be put up for sale soon, you still interested?
Yes, I replied
I have the car that you viewed at the airport and several others, come by and see them.
We immediately drove to his office
We chose our GTH and some how we where very fortunate that "our GTH" did not get rented or sold through this time period.
Months later as the Hertz GTH inventory was being depleted, we received a call advising us that only two are in stock.
Again we got very lucky that one of the two was our chosen one. It had less than half the mileage of the other GTH in stock. Also the chosen one was in much better overall condition.
Upon our final visit we noticed that the two front tires had some wear on the inside. Hardly noticable unless you got down to do a push up.
That was pointed out to the sales person and he replied SOLD as is. After a phone call, the salesman came back and advised that both tires would be replaced with brand new rubber.
We drove it home to meet it's new family.
Who would have thought that in the future it would become a part of a trio of GTHs
Just the beginning of its journey.
