Title: Ford GT Concours at SAAC 50
Post by: Rickmustang on May 01, 2025, 09:48:55 AM
It's hard to believe that the '05-'06 Ford GTs are now twenty-years old. With that milestone comes their eligibility to participate in SAAC Concours competition. This will begin at SAAC 50 in Sonoma, California in August 2025.

The Head Judge will be Rich Brooks, "The Ford GT Guy". Rich has been involved with the cars since the beginning, having worked at Roush. He continues working on them today. As with all the cars in the concours, the GTs will be judged for originality and presentation. For more information, log onto the Shelby American Automobile Club forum under News from HQ. Thanks.

Lots of effort has been put into developing the judging sheets for this new class, thanks to all involved!  We haven't had much change over the years with our SAAC concours as far as the classes go, so this is fun/interesting to see where it goes.

After 20 years, these cars are still coveted and sought after.  Anyone with some seat time knows how special they are!

Judging should be pretty simple.
Most of these cars still have the original air in there tires and are not driven and tucked into car collections, with owners waiting for the right auction to run them through. Probably would be better off as a ford gt gathering instead of a concourse.

Just like early Mustangs, Ford and aftermarket companies made lots of parts to modify Ford GTs. Exhaust, superchargers, floor mats, shifters, seat hot buttons, coil covers, wheels all made it on cars. Hard to keep them original with all the original documentation, car cover bag, charger and air pump. Add to that the ones that were wrecked and lost serial number tags. It will be interesting to see if any show up for concours.

Unlike early mustangs lots of people bought Ford GTs and salted them away in factory wrappers in climate controlled garages.  Seems there ought to be plenty of 5 Mile cars to choose from

Well I have had mine since 2007. its been modified and driven like it was built to be driven! I have driven it to 6 SAAC conventions and she just crossed the 25,000 mile mark. I will not be participating in the Concours, but will enjoy watching it happen!!

Registration for SAAC 50 Ford GT concours closes in a couple weeks. SAAC 50 will be an epic event with Shelbys, Boss Mustang reunion, and Ford GTs. Hope to see everyone there.

There was a great turnout at SAAC 50. Two 05/06 GTs, an original Mark 1, two Shelby American M1 replicas, and a Mark IV were in attendance. One of the SA M1s ran a race group.

In concours, there are two divisions, one allows reproduction parts, and the other is for thoroughbred cars with all original parts. There is also a show for whatever you bring. So lots of options to get your GT out.

The next concours event is in French Lick, IN in October. Hope to see everyone there.
