Hopefully S.C. is different then TN. To register as an antique one is only allowed to drive their car on weekends to car meets or to get the car serviced. Pretty restrictive, and if you are caught in violation you loose the antique plate plus a healthy fine. Your best bet is to contact the S.C. DMV for options. Welcome to the area.

Heard something about paying annual property tax on the vehicle before being able to get it registered.

An antique motor vehicle is exempt from property taxes if it is licensed and registered as an antique motor vehicle pursuant to Article 23, Chapter 3,Title 56 of the SC Code. SC Code ยง12-37-220(B)(48). If you're running with an antique tag now, it's an easy transaction. If you want to make sure you know what you're going to pay for property taxes if you don't register it as an antique, simply call into your SC County tax assessor's office and ask what value they put on it ahead of time. You will need to pay the County Property Tax FIRST before you can go to the SC DMV for a license, tag, and registration. Make sure you have proof of insurance and proof of your new address, take a copy of a utility bill with you. Good luck! Where are you moving to? Denny

Going to SC November as well. Antique plates will help you. Follow Denny's advice.
