How do you know it's from 286? Yes I know there is a Ford serial number on the block but how did you match it to an SA number?

I would guess he got info from SAAC?

Yes - but Howard won't confirm the Ford K# VS Shelby SFM# connection unless he is provided both numbers.
This is a simple way to prevent someone creating a car from only having an engine or SA tag.
interested in this motor, how do I contact you ?
Did any of you stop to think that maybe the person he got the motor from used to have the car Also, and took it out. So therefore they know what the number was. Not everything is nefarious as you guys are making it sound.

Not nefarious - just curious. He could have even removed it from the original car. But it could have also been replaced at some point with another HiPo by any owner throughout the years.
He still hasn't answered how he KNOWS it is the ORIGINAL Ford VIN match engine from 6S286.

If I read the original post correctly, the gist of his inquiry was "If you own this shelby, please contact me on here."; I'm just not sure that this makes him responsible to answer to others. ;)

All he would have needed to do if he wanted it private is to email Howard to get a message forwarded to the owner. I suspect since he's a Jr Member that he has a 6R09K block that someone has stamped 286 on. You know one of those common numbers shops stamp on heads and blocks to match them to the invoice.
This forum is an educational tool for Jr (and all) Members. Let's help the guy out and confirm or deny it's from 286 - and why.

Agreed, that there's nothing wrong with a conversation, but maybe in light of this forum being an educational tool, lets just not jump to conclusions and be making suppositional statements, at least not before actually having any real evidence to support any real theorems. :)
But then, you just might be absolutely correct, but at this point, even if this did prove to be a correct conclusion it would be based on the same logic that many apply in their effort to win the lottery . . . . . . just a 'wild-a$$-guess'! ::)

If the owner is not found or not interested
Please let me know if you are interested in selling

If that's it I doubt it's from 286. The first 252 66s were carryover 65s with 5R09K Vins. That block is 30,000+ into the 66 build year and 286 was only the 34th car that would have carried a 6R09K VIN. San Jose built just over 20,000 cars per month.
Only Howard knows for sure.......
