Title: '69/350H ?
Post by: Survivor on January 21, 2025, 12:20:12 PM
Came across an article from a publication called "Ford Authority" dated 3/10/20, in which the author claims that of the 151 (or so) '69/350 Hertz cars, only 5 rec'd the Traction-Lok option.  Any thoughts on accuracy?

Go to the 69/70 SAAC registry and the information it contains and compare the data. The facts in the registry have the most credibility IMO.

Its probably true, since cars were ordered on a DSO where all cars built are similar.

If they knew they were going to be Hertz cars, why added the traction lok

If the contract called for X# white cars X# blue x# green etc could they just have pulled some already completed cars from inventory that happened to have TL and sent them off with the others? Were all the Hertz cars built in a group or were they spaced out all through production? Sales were slow so I can see them trying to empty the storage lot and take the hit on any additional accessories not on the Hertz contract.

Like pretty much all Shelbys cars were built in singles or small groups (in a day or so not in a line one after another according to workers at the Ford plants) so as to not disturb normal production. In the case of 69's they (Hertz models) were scatted over many months at Dearborn based on the production/completion dates from Marti reports

2060 built 4-7-69 has Traction-Loc. 2059 just sold at Mecum Saturday, built same day (a twin to mine). I don't know how many were built that day but I suspect they were equipped the same.

I think you going to find out it depends entirely on the orders of the day. I have a friend that has a car that was built the same day as mine and he has a big block convertible. I have a small block hardtop.

I also think the orders for the Hertz cars are probably on just a handful of DSOs. I am not discounting something prebuilt was thrown in, but its unlikely in my opinion.
