Hello I´m just sitting over some of my notes that are now older than 20 years and I wonder if its right that there are 2 different block/transmission spacer plates for a 67 GT500 C3AZ-7007-D for an automatic and C3AZ-7007-B for an 4 speed. Both have the big hole for the camshaft. Is that right? Thanks, Kent
I believe youre right according to this page:
https://www.428cobrajet.org/id-trans-spacer
The page also sys this - "Starting in 68 they eliminated all the other versions as there was no need for them because the -F was needed to clear the new machining protocol and it still fit all the older engines as well".
So in 1968 model year all FE's regardless of transmission used the exact same plate.
Just adding: if you have the original non-three punchouts block plate the area above the cam you may need to use a hole saw to put them in. On my 428 tribute car, the machine shop used different oil gallery plugs that would have pushed the block plate of into the flexplate.
With my judges cap on there is no advantage to source a 67 assemblyline block plate as the other versions look the same on the portion that can be seen once installed. Also as Rod mentioned the three hole version may be mandatory because of the plugs used after a rebuild. That is the reason for the three holes in the first place.
All I have seen for 1968 up are the three hole version regardless of transmission. As Bob says they can't be seen once installed and the three hole version may be what you need anyway.

+1 . It hard to go wrong with the three hole version IMO.
