Title: 68 GT500 tilt away option
Post by: ridgeter on December 18, 2024, 06:53:28 PM
Early Dec 67 car. I cannot start car unless I gently fiddle plastic pin for cable that goes to vacuum motor that actuates tilt away option.

It was working fine until car sat for awhile due to weather.

My question - is there a way to permanently fix this? Cable adjustment? All original tilt way components seem intact.

Was trying to add a pic?

If you can correct by moving the plunger on the vacuum motor, then it is a cable adjustment.

The can be very touchy.  The movements are literally 1/16 inch

I will tell you mine works great in warm or hot weather. When it gets cold I have to hold the steering wheel down for several seconds even oscillating it a bit until it moves enough to start the car.  I always think I need to lubricate something but just never get around to doing it.

The cable needs to be tighter to allow the car to start. The adjustment needs to be just right - as tight as possible is normally the way that works.
