Title: July 4. 1965
Post by: FL SAAC on July 04, 2024, 07:01:19 PM
July 4th not only is the United States of America Independence Day, but also marks when Shelby American won the FIA sports car championship in  1965.

Even until today is still the only time an American car maker has captured this prestigious crown.

But it wasn't an all American win. Ford had told CS to concentrate on the GT40 and drop campaigning the Coupes. While they were entered by SA they were run and managed by Alan Mann. Bondo was driving and ignored Mann's orders during the season to back off and let "his" drivers (Whitmore & Sears) win.
