Came across this picture on HAMB. Looks to be 1968, could be 1967.
Trying to see how to attach pictures.
Looks like it works!

Wes Johnson (rip) REAL '68 GT500 ( not KR) ran for years with the original 428PI then went to dual fours and eventually a 427 low riser. It eventually ran in the high tens. Ruel's dyno tune ( on the rear fender was in Pasadena. Ruel Nicol was the tuner Wes used. Sold to Joe Fraelich ( rip) in as raced condition and I lost track of it after that. OCIR regular every weekend.

Videos of my car 6S477 can be found @ Memories of OCIR on youtube and a more recent one at Fontana under Randy Gillis GT350 on you tube . I am not smart enough to provide a link . I'll try and post some photos when I get help from a smarter person like a ten year old with a smart phone LOL Or maybe someone will post a picture this Friday at SAAC43.

One more.... 8)....( that is papa scoops in the grand stands on his daily LSD TRIP ).... ::)
note that the 56 chev is running a stock 235 6 cyl with three on the tree, 2 burnt valves. he beat the 67 500 by half a track! btw, the 500 ran outta gas 1/2 the way down the track, after just filling up at the start....

My 54 had the same top - only with white padded vinyl. Always thought it had been made/modified by Carson Tops.
GT350HR,
Ruel's alive (at least as of today!)
He did close his shop on Maple & Primrose a couple of years ago though.
That's good to hear Ruel is a great guy and very fierce racer in anything he drives fast or slow.

that's one great story, what would have happen if it did not run out if gas...
Also came across this picture on HAMB. Looks to be another 1968 red in the background.
Maybe someone can find the event and narrow done the location.
By the looks of the cars the time period would indicate the car to be fairly new.
