Title: 1967 Shelby two piece exhaust tips
Post by: Ron842 on December 11, 2023, 12:36:56 PM
Hello
I have a pair of exhaust tips I bought over 30 years ago from a person who said they were for a Shelby or Boss
I am trying to identify them. I have had two Shelby enthusiasts check them out and they said they are the real deal
They did not come in any boxes back then and there is no stampings but I was told not all were stamped
The chrome looks to be factory not reproduction.
I bought them to put on my Mustang bu never did.. Maybe that was a good thing
Input would be appreciated
Thanks Ron

Those in  your picture are repros . Branda has been selling them since the 70's. The two piece version that came on the earlier production 67 Shelby's had the weld at the base of the bell shape and not further back on the straight pipe like seen in the picture.

JD your correct picture is different then the OP's repro picture.

This is the picture I got off Tony Brada site . They seem to bulge before the weld

Yes that is apparently the current version Tony Branda version . The OP's picture is apparently the older version. As I said they have been available since at least the early 80's . There are different older versions but they are still reproduction.Things can change over the course of 40 years . ;) The fact remains that the original was welded at the base of the bell shape.

I should clarify that even though they are repro they are meant to look like the 67 Shelby tips but not "the real deal" . :D

Yes, you're correct - NOT the same as two-piece "originals".

I didn't look at his photos before posting was in a hurry - apology to all

EEE! Only a Shelby Judge could tell the difference. I mean crawling under the car, in the dirt, with a flash light. Immune to all the dirt, grime and grease!

Good for you Bob! They look original enough to me, but I shun the grime on my sneakers getting under there?  8)

+1 on everything Bob said.

I have quite a few original tips and original tips still attached to original exhaust systems.  Some from Mr. Gaines I'm sure.  Where did the description and photos come from on the original tips in this thread (reply #2)?  Never seen that before.

Those are part of the '67 Running Changes article in the Fall of 2013 Shelby American.

The changeover from the early style tips to the later style tips was approx car #1600.  I have the original exhaust off of car #1637 and it has the early style tips.   Car was built 3/23/67 and has a 12/66 dated muffler.

So does anyone make an exact duplicate of the late one piece?

That Fuller guy. It is about as exact to the original as you can get. ;)

That is a 68 version(still perfectly done) but not a 67 exhaust tip like this thread is about.

Fuller makes awesome parts.  Notice the taper on upper bell for 67 2 piece has more of a gradual taper than does the one piece and the 68 (as well as the Branda repos posted).
