Title: convertible tops
Post by: DaveB330 on November 17, 2023, 08:59:28 AM
I need to replace the white top, well-liner and boot cover on my '69 GT500. Hinged tinted glass, brass zipper on the original. Frame is fine. Have reviewed all posts here [and in Mustang forums] and found wide/varying viewpoints on what is the best product currently on the market. [Also, if anybody has one they aren't using, would love to talk]. Advice and input very much appreciated!  Thanks....

Try to find someone who makes or has the Haartz Pinpoint

Many years ago I believe we ended buying a Robbins top, don't clearly remember

I just replaced mine on my 69 GT350 about a year ago.....bought the Easy On brand from NPD

https://www.npdlink.com/product/convertible-top-kit-ford-white-correct-original-color/125558?backurl=search%2Fproducts%3Fsearch_terms%3DCT-90-EGL%26top_parent%3D200001%26year%3D

I replaced everything cables, pads etc...

Had a professional upholstery shop put it on....had to take back there to get  some wrinkles on the rear both sides of the window fixed.....still has some wrinkles maybe over time will stretch and go away...I even let car sit outside couple days in 95 degree heat to get it to relax but still not perfect...

otherwise top looks great.........Dead Nuts On  sells the leather pull strap for the zipper too...

Maybe it was not a Robbins, possibly a company called Kee

Once you are in there,  we replaced all lines, cylinders cables etc.

Never had a issue after all new components

Best of luck

Kee tops is who you want to get your top from, one of our judges (Charles Turner if I remember correctly) worked with them years ago to get the proper material and window zipper and pulls:

Call them, be sure to specify what you want.

I worked with Kee about 15 years ago to replicate details on an original 65-66 top for a K convertible I restored.  Sent them an original top, they took all the measurements and made an identical top.  I was told that they put the template in their system in case I ever needed another made.  Don't know if they have something similar to 69/70, might be worth giving them a call though.

Thank you all........I have emailed Kee and will keep you advised on what I learn.  As a sidebar, when I was researching vendors, I ran into this group:          www.aro2000.com       They make some interesting claims about history and originality.

Electron makes an excellent 69/70 top. They're all my upholstery guy will use.

This is really something to think about before you go ripping off your original top?

I didn't realize the situation had deteriorated to this extent?

Ha well my guy is pretty "old school." He also recommends Easy-On, which NPD sells.

Electron bought out by guy that used to own easy on 5 years ago. He continued to operate under electron name moving operation from NY to SC. Then after 3 years easy on his former company bought him out.
