Title: Trunk Taillight Boards
Post by: shelbymann1970 on October 19, 2023, 08:09:28 AM
Seems to be some interest and comments on them on another topic so why not have it's own. I'm posting some pics of my original trunk taillight  boards. The back side is smooth. The front side is NOT smooth. Has a texture almost like it was the end result of the paint put on the board. I hope my pics show the texture as I tried to shoot at an angle.

I think that the texture is due to the "cardboard material" reacting to the paint?

Actually if you look at the current "platinum colored primers", the color is very similar. That primer has a blue-ish-ness to it under certain lighting conditions.

It isn't relevant to the discussion but honestly I wonder why anyone bothered to paint the boards at all? They were fine in just black.

That lighting was in my closed garage with a single 100Watt LED bulb but the bulb is a diff hue than what reg light bulbs come in. I offhand don't recall what style(daylight?). I also have many 4 strip LEDs in my garage which if I had lit them would have created a diff color. My goal is next spring to color match the paint on my boards if need be. I haven't compared that color to my Dead nuts on yet(they are in a bedroom tucked away at the moment. Maybe dead nuts is dead nuts on?

More pics this time for comparison. Jack says his are a "10" for accuracy. Well to me comparing my original panel to his I'd say they are " Dead Nuts On".  Even the grain on the painted side is the same. The only issue I'll have to correct is the reverse bend.

Incorrect bend and my original. Next topic is original NOS lucas lamps from 68-69.

I thought all '69-'70 Shelby's came with fold down rear seats? IF so, why would there be a carboard divider?

Thanks for the heads up. changed the heading. Brain fart is all I can come up with other than wanting a DNO trunk divider for my vert and none available. Now write Trunk Tail light boards 110 times....

Yes and I'm impressed how well they are done comparing them to my one original piece. My car was bought in 1985 with only one board mounted in the trunk. I see why he gave his an accuracy rating of 10. Now I need to find one of his convertible trunk divider and well liner parts.
