I have heard rumors but have not seen any pictures or center console lids that look any different than what I have here. Curious if anyone has seen the console stamping slightly different on an original. This is what I consider correct originals:

The Black looks more Grainy but that could be because the Parchment one is worn.
Marcus, working on getting you some photos.
I did find a car that has a little more definition, but that looks the same.
One I have
I believe original

I think I see differences in the three concentric "rings" around the snake in two of these.
Appears to show "high-low-high" on one and "low-high-low" on the other (embossed/debossed, looking from the outside ring toward the two inner rings.)
Or it might just be my screen and/or the angles of the photos.
What's the correct design?
It looks to me like these are all the same - especially the rings around the outer edges...unless someone sees something I am missing. Its hard to compare photos because a slight change in angle makes it look different.
The first two photos I posted are definitely originals.

In the two pictures you posted there appears to be differences but are they or is this just a poor picture, angle or contrast?

Ok I do see differences now...especially in the photo that Pete posted here and Jeff points out in his. I will have to take a closer look at what I have when I return back from Oregon. Seems some differences can be from wear over the years and other differences are just from day 1 the way they were made.
My dilemma here is looking at reproducing a stamp to make these - but wanting to do it as accurate as possible and just doing one variation.
The second one I posted is definitely an odd ball

Keep in mind that there have been reproductions of the lid from back in the early 80s or more. J. Yergovich sold Branda his tooling for the snake vinyl for their first version back then .
Good call Pete the first one you posted looks just like mine I have had it in my Shelby since July 1969 I just had a good look at it looks just like the one you posted. James
I know this is an old post but would be helpful to see a pic of the underside of console lid that screws to the console plate. Is the vinyl stapled or glued on?I'm having my lid cover restored, so I bought a reproduction from Branda in the interim and seems like it's missing padding material.

If you wait a few days I'll have an original untouched console from a late Jan car I can see.
Yes, thank you.
It should be just the way yours was when you bought the car.
:D
The vinyl cover is stretched over the pad, glued to the inner metal and a finish plate is screwed over that.
Your console lid was fine, why mess with it? Take it off and get out your needle and thread to replace the old threads
Everytime you take original parts off you are loosing history and value
I agree with you. Original cover has a bad repair and split on both sides so I plan to take it off and repair/reinforce from the back, if that is possible. The plate on the bottom has the signature so I am trying to figure what I will encounter if I unscrew the plate. Yikes.
The Branda repro is very thin. See below.
You will the original flaps glued to another metal base
Many thanks. I appreciate it.
Does anyone make an attractive, yet protective, cover for that console pad? I find that I often rest my right forearm there, and would like to preserve and protect that imprint when driving. Any suggestions? Thank you, Steve.

I am not aware of a protective cover made especially for the console lid . If you use the lid for a arm rest I would suggest at least a microfiber towel to protect the lid from the oils of your skin having a adverse effect on the vinyl.

I have kept a couple of towels in my cars for decades. I have been able to find ones that match the interior color and one stays on my console lid for the same reason as you say. I have towels in my Shelby, Wife's Lincoln, two Superdutys, Silverado, and all my Model A's. They help protect the lid and have come in handy after getting caught in a downpour several times.
TOB
I started out using a nice microfiber towel, but I became a bit frustrated because it wanted to slide all over the place. Now, I'm using a very thin piece of rubber that I cut to fit, but it too, wants to slide around. At least it's better than nothing. If my wife were a "balabusta" (Yidddish for a complete homemaker, and often the ruling matriarch) I would have her make something with an elastic edging to tightly grip the console cover. Oh well, she's not.steve
They make universal console covers that are washable.
I haven't measured but this may fit.
