Title: 69 Chrome hood trim molding
Post by: kasearch@ix.netcom.com on July 02, 2023, 09:06:47 AM
My GT 500 came with a front chrome molding, all wrapped up from "plater". When opened, I discovered a dent and a scratch. Anyone able to help me out?

Are you referring to the hood molding as your heading suggests or the fender eyebrows? The hood trim molding is stainless and not chrome plated. The left and right fender eyebrows are chrome plated.

You are correct Bob. I am looking for the Hood stainless, NOT the eyebrows.

The attaching tabs are punchouts that stand 90 degrees out from the molding's integral reinforcement. They were designed to pass through mounting holes in the hood and secured by bending another 90 degrees around to the underside.

They are very thin - from my experience you may get one or two unbending / rebending for removal and reattachment - then they break off.

The openings in the reinforcement are very shallow, making other mechanical attachment difficult. The holes are also too small for most molding "T" clips. Use of screws often results in dimpling the molding when the tip of the screw contacts its underside. I believe the reinforcement is galvanized, making welding replacement tabs onto it a job best left to professionals. I have also seen tabless moldings attached with two sided tape.

If they still have them the Branda ones are pretty spot on once installed. they even have the fold over tabs.

The hood moldings had the galvanized tabs and 2 sided tape but they still would loosen and had to be replaced after a time.

I had the site that would supply branda, but it's been so long that it looks like misplaced or erased their number
