Title: Small Block Ford in an MG
Post by: frank.herbst on July 07, 2018, 12:52:48 PM
Hello guys,
Haven't been on much, retirement is so much work...
Our local MCA club (Front Range Mustang Club) met today at a very nice Cars and Coffee in Lafayette (Denver) CO. There were hundreds of really nice cars that you most likely have see one of at some time. But I wanted to post a picture in the Gallery of a clean MG that had a small block Ford installed. It had the sound.
Hope all is well,
Frank

Probably drives like a beast...

Drivers side looks like a very tight fit.

Love it. I have a magazine from 1967 (Sports Car Graphic I believe) that featured an MGB with a SBF swap. It was done to an incredibly high standard by the owner, I think an engineer.

I drove a stock MGB for 5 years. Most unreliable POS I ever owned (although a 2001 Mini Cooper S was close).

Lucas electrics, the prince of darkness. Literally.

one Frankenstein British car that does handle  well with the swap is the e type Jaguar. In the 1970's / 1980's  I saw a few with 289 K code engines. The Ford 289 V-8 weighs less than the Jaguar 3.8 or 4.2 L straight 6 .

When prices started going up dramatically, the ones I knew of have since had the V-8 yanked out and a replacement Jag engine installed.

Popular swap still is a SB Chevy in a Jag sedan. $3-5 grand for a reliable Jag.

since my clutch leg leg is not up to snuff anymore, I've got an '02 Jaguar XKR for my daily driver. just call me old fashioned, but I'd rather get a junkyard Jag engine if and when needed rather than have a Chevy pull me around.

No immediate worries as the usual gremlins (plastic cam chain tensioner) were dealt with by a previous owner.
