When I purchased #2148 in October 2017 from John Barnes I also got binders full of history, photos, receipts - you name it. I am in the process of digitizing everything so I thought that I would share some pictures. Here are a few from the car's drag racing days in the 80's. ~Kevin

New York State and it appears that they still race there (http://www.dragway.com/).

kjspeed, you have a PM. :)
Fabulous Mustangs Winter 1983 article on SAAC 8 with picture of 2148's interior guarded by a cobra and mongoose. I got two taxidermy cobras fighting a mongoose and one stand-alone cobra with the car. They were in pretty rough shape but with a little glue and glycerine they pass the 10 foot test! Most people don't want to get any closer than that. John told me to put one of them in the driver's seat and I won't have to worry about people sticking their nose in the car. So far I'd say he was about right! ;)

Just the other day were discussing on a thread here about vintage magazine articles and copyrights.
It made me smile to see this one has been posted. I was there.
Hey, I think I know that writer!

Can't tell you how cool it is to be able to connect with people who were there, back in the day, when John was having fun with his pride and joy. I feel like I'm not just caretaker of a car, but of a piece of SAAC history and each time I hear from someone it paints a more complete picture for me of the history of that car. Thank you for that!

In the overhead picture of the Dearborn parking lot, my car is third from the bottom right. White '68 with black rear window louvres. Webers were on the car then.
I don't know who the crowd of people was standing around the car. Probably John's spies? ;)
Doug,
Do you still own that '68?
Louvers are cool.
Van
Sure do. Apparently I'm going to get buried in it? Kids can get their own or drive it with the stink. ;)

Probably! 8) You should have heard him when I told him you said that he got the idea to put in the Boss/Webers/Richmond from you!!! ;D

LMAO! All I can say is, I did it first in BOTH CASES! He got the first SHELBY lettered Weber intake though! My best to John! ;D
I'll pass along your greeting Doug.
Talked to him about a week ago. He was sitting at his log home on Lake Champlain searching for Champ with his binoculars. I think at night he leads gullible tourists through the Adirondacks looking for Big Foot. :o

John was NEVER shy about having his say. Ask him how he got the only '68 R model too? Iput the Boss in my car when there was still SUNOCO 260 in the pumps. 1974-75?
Mine isn't a Richmond, it's a Doug Nash 4+1. All coincidental.
The headers were from a company called "Pro Stock" and came out of an R model that Rich Leuchner owned at the time that was running a Cleveland. I don't remember the serial number but you can cross reference that with the Registry.

That's funny! Me and my buddies are always joking about that elusive Edsel R model with the back seat delete. We have an acquaintance who fancies himself a Ford expert and he just nods approvingly every time we bring it up. ::)
John did do a fair bit of drag racing with that car, so it's fair to say it is a race car, just not a road race car as the photo might suggest. I do have time slips I will post soon.
I like what he did with the car. I like the car. I like John. Happy retirement to him and happy ownership of the car to you. :)
