Title: Hood is high at the hinge?
Post by: 67 GT350 on May 08, 2023, 06:07:30 PM
I see that 65-66 hood hinges are the same. Are 67-68 hinges their own also? I see a lot of catalogs have them as 67-70. What is correct? A guy I know has a 67 Shelby where the back of the hood near the wiper area is raised in the back. I went over to help him adjust his hood, but the hinges are adjusted all the way down, yet the hood is raised. Do we need to modify the hinges where they bolt to the inner apron?

The hood needs to be opened further with the hinge to apron bolts loose to adjust the hood further down. The reproduction hood hinges are awful. You may also need lighter hood springs to compensate for the fiberglas hood.

With adjusting the hinges you have to think in reverse.  Dropping all 3 bolts to the lowest  will not lower the back of the hood. You have to raise the front of the hinge so when closed the top hood face of the hinge aims downward towards the firewall / cowl.  This also moves the hood rearward. You then have to loosen the hood bolts so the hood slides forward. Best way to do this is to raise the hood loosen the front and middle bolt. Have someone lift upon the front of the hood raising the front of the hinge.  Carefully close the hood without bumping the cowl and recheck the adjustment

65/66 are one style . 67/68 hood hinges are another style . 69/70 style became the replacement for the 67/68 style if you needed to order them from Ford. The 69/70 style will work fine on a 67/68 but are different in a few visible details.

Just as a note the 69/70 style hinge was used on some late 68 MY production cars. I have seen them on as early as a first of May NJ built car.

Is it best to remove the spring, get the hood adjusted, then install them back in, for fine tuning?

I know but did not want to make it more confusing for the OP.
