Title: SBF Tri-Power Holley Carburetors LIST 2881 and 2882
Post by: 6s1640 on June 07, 2018, 06:13:47 PM
Hi all,

Do you know if the Ford small block  tri-power set up came with tags?  All three carbs?  The ford part numbers are C4AF-9510-U and C4AF-9510-V.  I would like to have some tags made up, but it they did not come with tags, not need to spend the money.

Thanks

Cory

Cory,
My setup doesn't have tags, but I do not know the entire history of it.  It has probably been apart many times.  In my research I haven't found any photos or discussion of tags, but at that doesn't mean much. Hopefully someone with a long ownership history can help.  Here are a few pictures of mine how I bought it.

Hi Brain,

I am going to check the old SAI catalogs tonight and see if any tags can be seen in the period photographs.

Also, can you confirm the metering blocks on your carbs are 3563 with LIST 2882 and 3673 with LIST 2881.  Last, what are the date codes?

Thanks for sharing

Cory,

             List #      Metering Block      Date
Front:    2868          3563                  391

Back:    2868           6343                 391

Hi Brian,  Thanks for posting.  It is interesting the two 2868 carb's have different metering blocks.  Is that right?

Below is my set up.

Position   LIST No.      Metering Block     Date   Ford Part No.
Front        2882              3563                 392     C4AF9501V
Middle      2881              3672                 391     C4AF9501U
Back         2882              3563                 392     C4AF9501V

These number are consistent with a set up currently on auction.

I could not see any tags on the old Ford and SAI ads or catalogs.

Cory,  Yes my numbers are correct with what I have.  I had to double check a couple times.    I am not sure what they are supposed to be.  I haven't researched enough yet.  I need to get to the bottom of it, because I plan to run this setup on my 1930 Model A Roadster.

Hi Brian,

Any markings on the intake? I find none on mine.  IIRC, I have heard some had BUDDY BAR markings, but I could be mistake.  I have not been able to find much info on these set ups on the internet.  Mustangtek list this set up with no markings under intake manifolds.

I have a Tri-Power on 6S1348 that I put on in the 80's. As I remember it had BUDDY BAR in the bottom. I do admit that was about 35 years ago so I may be wrong. There is a date marking of 9 64 cast into the top of the thermostat housing on the outside.
Here are the numbers. I will have to look again for two of the metering blocks.
There were no tags on the carbs when I got them. I have had five sets of carbs over the years and do not remember any carb tags. Of course that does not meany any thing.

Part Number
Front C4AF-9510-V List 2882
Middle  C4AF-9510-U List-2881
Back C4AF-9510-V List 2882

Date Number
Front 502
Middle 584
Back 502

Metering block
Numbers
Front
Middle 3673
Back

Hope this is helpful...

Les

6S1348's Day Two addition of Ford Tri-Power. Added in the 1980's after finding it in a garage covered with dog hair.
Air cleaner studs are fabricated because the top is from a 2x4 system and the spacing is different.
For years I always had problems with the carb gaskets leaking fuel when starting after sitting for long periods of time.
Newer gaskets seem to not shrink with time like the earlier ones.
Note the casting date code 9 64...
