Well after years of searching I finally found my Shelby, number 1587. I purchased her from the original owner with 45k on the speedo. She is all original and all there. In 1971 the owner decided to put a set of 427 heads and a single carb intake. He never finished the job and the car stayed for 47 years in a garage. I have tried to post pictures, but I always get the error
"The upload folder is full. Please try a smaller file and/or contact an administrator."

^^^^ Yes
Awesome car, well done
How cool! It just goes to show that there are so many cars still out there waiting to get rediscovered.
I'm jealous of the ones who find their cars this way! Very cool!
I'd get it mechanically sound and drive it for a bit the way it is now!

Well after years of searching I finally found my Shelby..
Great looking car (thx for posting the pics Rich). Congrats on finding your Shelby. I think it would be really cool to do a mechanical restoration and leave the outside as is.
Yes, Rich thanks for getting the pictures posted. I agree that I would most likely get it running as is and enjoy for a while. No need to rush the restoration. Car looks great to me.
It does have rough and tough cool looks to it, but wouldn't a mechanical restoration now followed by a restoration later be twice the work?
Once again thanks Rich, I believe I've figured it out....I'm fighting myself over this same thought. I'm thinking of getting it drivable and road worthy first. Then take it apart to do the full restoration. Here are some more pictures. I put a battery in her last night and everything worked perfect, even the clock was ticking.

You'll need quite a few more batteries though. ;D

You got it! Posted photo success!!!
This photo with all the headlights lit up is a great sign of good things to come.
If you have a chance, please take a look to see if the rear valence has any part #'s / date codes. (
I'm not certain if they do
or not).
I think it may have been replaced with this later style Mustang GT stamped version. From the SJ date, the DSO 84-2549, and VIN number, I would have expected it to have the earlier style valence with the exhaust cut out and the '66 Mustang "Hi-Po" trim piece in place. (I could be wrong)
Yes! Another Marshall Ford Shelby.
I lived a few miles from Columbia Station during those years and there were quite a few Shelbys running around. They even were driven in the winter. The owner of my KR lived in that area also, they may have hung out together???
great find enjoy it to the fullest

Lazarus! You know you have a cool car when it shows that much age and still looks amazing.

Maybe more than 2x the work. ;) Just projecting a bit, since my restored car doesn't see 10% of the action that the unrestored one does.
Rich,
I checked out pictures of a few cars with same San Jose Build Date and they did not have the early valence with chrome trim. Of course they could have been changed out at a later date. I think the valence on the car is most likely correct. Perhaps others may have opinion.

I would be surprised to see the early rear valance on a car this late . I don't agree with the previously posted 1700 something number range for the early rear valance. Just my opinion based on my observations .

I can assume the "Rally Stripe" means the Lower Side Stripes since everyone says that no 67's came from SAI with over the top stripes?
Bob / Dennis,
I replied back in the rear valance thread the reason why I suspect it might have had the earlier version. (I understand I may still be wrong)

Alright guys here is the last of the pictures ...This is all the parts that I received everything seems to be correct and all there..... It blows my mind that the original tires still hold air ...Dave Matthews told me that this car went in for a warranty service on the valves, I actually found the warranty tag..

jgroce1985,
Is there any text information visible on the paper tag on the cylinder head?
Something was on it at one time, but it's to faded and fragile to tell

Thank you.
That original paperwork is incredible.
Great find on everything.
Congratulations and thanks for posting!
Lot's of original stuff there.
Have fun - don't let go
Really cool story and treasure trove of documentation.
Rather than do a lot of hard and expensive projects twice, I would go straight to the best restoration I could afford.
Assembling everything is not a bad idea. It helps you account for what parts you are missing. At times it is difficult to think you have it all when it is scattered in boxes. There are a lot of parts and hardware to make a car and not every nut and bolt can be assumed to be in the "boxes". A lot of the time you will not know what is missing until you start putting things together. I would suggest assembling everything and then restoring.
Awesome find! Cool car! I am jealous. I will be following your progress. :-)
Very good advice - silverton_ford. So many pieces......
when you get a chance can you look at power steering pulley and tell me what the part number is on it? thanks Jeremy
Ill take a look at it tonight....If you need anything else let me know...Also some of the chalk marks are still there so if anyone would like pictures.
Yes, please post pictures of chalk marks.
No problem
Don't think those are the original tires .Should be speedway 350s right???

you are correct. F60 with size in raised white letters wasn't introduced until late 1969.
Sorry I shouldn't have said the original tires I mean the tires that have been on it since 1971. He did give me the original set of tires with the car.

Yes, that seems to be a common trait, by a number of Forumites.
I guess POO POOING, someone else's car, that, they have not seen, in person,
apparently, makes them feel much better.

This is true unfortunately. Personally I prefer to see the cars that have not been restored or that have been hidden away for years and have recently surfaced. I also love seeing customized cars because almost everybody restores them to stock these days, but it's understandable. Even just a set of custom wheels on a Shelby is cool to see. That being said, mine looks like it did from the day it was new except for Lemans stripes. I'm thinking a set of Torque Thrusts are in it's future however......I took the ones off my '66 Galaxie several years back and put them on the Shelby and I really liked the looks of it.

And why not do that? It's your car and you can do it your way. Torque Thrusts on, the
Shelby, sounds good to me.
I use PS engineering, 8 x 15's all around with AVONS, on my '66 Shelby, and that's the
way I like it. Don't care, what others say.
