Title: 1968 GT500KR Rear Brake Hardware (kit)
Post by: Craner on May 19, 2022, 03:17:31 PM
Searching for guidance on a rear brake hardware kit.
I'm confused..
Rear Brake Shoe retaining springs .
I think these are original to the car.
One is colored black, the other is blue.
The are actually wound different direction.
Is this correct? ....as I'm finding it difficult to find a kit or even Ford part numbers that reference these.

Attached is a photo of the springs.  These were installed in both the drivers and passenger side rear brakes.
Also attached is photo of the marking on the brake lining.

Any assistance is appreciated. Thank You
Fran

The black one goes on the shoe where the parking brake lever attaches, blue goes on the front pin.

Thank you for confirming this as being correct.
I haven't found a quality source that has the correct hardware kit yet.

I could reuse (restore)these springs with everything else being new US metal springs, but would rather use an all new correct US metal spring kit

Is there such a source?
Thks

I've only ever seen NOS exact replacements available.  Most of the aftermarket "kits" come with generic one-size-fits all type hardware with no difference between front/rear shoe pin springs.  If there's no rub wear on the springs and they aren't rusty/pitted, I would see no issue with re-using them.
