Title: Steering wheel wood grain insert.
Post by: Milo on February 20, 2022, 08:38:19 PM
What have y'all used to freshen this up? I saw branda referenced a separate reproduction part in the center piece listing, but it's nowhere to be found on his site, nor any other of the usual sites.

Also, what is the correct way to attach the emblem? It works like my original was glued...?

Thanks!

A little glue is what was originally used.  At least enough usually to break off the little studs when trying to remove the emblem.

What does the 68 Shelby look like? Photos?

The original "woodgrain" part was unique to Shelby. It was a vinyl appliqué stretched over thin aluminum with attaching tabs. The reproduction is molded plastic and has no mounting tabs.

As mentioned above, the emblem has small pegs and a little glue was used on the backside.

Thanks Pete. How do you go about replacing the wood appliqué? Is it just getting a patch and cutting to fit?

Not really, it was stretched and likely heated originally.

Cougar XR7s are close if you're looking. Woodgrain is different.
