I have tried with little luck to find correct location of the wiring harness clip/clips on the transmission/shifter for back up lamp wiring harness on a small block application. Attached picture shows big block location but small block mounting is different. Also, is there only one or more than one used? Hopefully someone knows where this little thing goes.
Thanks
Jon
The assembly manual for the small block places the clip under the tubular stand-off on the shifter body itself. But that's not correct as the boot interferes with that location. I've tried it and it just doesn't work.
DNO says that big block (BB) and small block (SB) use two clips.
One of the BB locations is shown in your pic.
The small block does not use an adapter on the tailshaft housing so that pic only applies to BB.
So the SB is left with an incorrect location as shown in the assembly manual and it cannot be located per the pic as there is no bolt in that location on the SB tailshaft.
That leaves us with DNO's stipulation that the clip is used under two bolts on the top cover. The shape of the clip's end supports that.
I'm with you, Jon. Puzzling.
Exactly which assembly manual? It is not in the Osbourne one. I drew it in as per Bob's description. Where is the Two? Only one was described.
Anyone? The big block application is known. I'm not sure there is a valid mounting point on a small block shifter if using lower shift boot. That would leave the transmission itself as the only possible mounting point/points.
Jon
NPD lists these two. The first is for 3-speed the second for 4-speed. I bought the second and it worked - BUT I had a Hurst shifter and had to adjust something. I don't remember where I attached it, as my car only had two loose burnt wires but it was easy to figure out. Hope this helps...

Yes, it's in the Osborne Assy Manual.
Not sure what you drew in.
As for the two, DNO describes two:

This is for the backup light wire harness
retainer and its routing, not the backup light itself.
See the Osborne snippet and where the manual suggests the clip should go.
This has been discussed in the CCM Forum, but the answers facilitate back and forth between SBF and BBF -- mostly BBF.

Roddster is asking about a GT350 and the conversation keeps turning to BBF.
TLea answers in one post that the clip may well be: "Its the rear upper cover bolt on the drivers side." and then soon after he shows a pic of a BBF trans installation with the clip installed on the front BBF shifter conversion plate.
Short of a definitive answer I'm inclined to believe one clip as TLea stated on the "top cover rear driver's side bolt" and nothing else.
