Title: 67 GT500 instrument cluster
Post by: shelbydoug on May 27, 2021, 06:57:13 AM
I have my gauge cluster out for normal maintanence and noticed something very strange.

It has no light socket in the harness for the fuel gauge illumination.

I picked through the harness expecting to find a severed wire where the socket was connected but it doesn't exist.

Now splicing in one isn't a technological struggle so that isn't the point of this post.

Have any of you come across this before?  ???

seems odd, here are some early metal light sockets vs late plastic light sockets.

Connector seems to be there in these.

I agree that this is VERY strange. I'm stumped...not speechless (seems I always have something to say about something). Wierd!

Is it POSSIBLE that there are two harnesses? Would the instrument cluster without a tach have a different harness with one less light socket?

I expect to see a paper label on the harness with a part number but it isn't there. It doesn't appear to be a replacement harness.

I can't find my car keys either...but I think that's a different issue? ::)

There is a different harness for the tach and non-tach clusters.

Seems I posted this to another topic - so here it is in the correct one, will add images next.

Dug out a non-tach instrument cluster, here is close-up of the light lead you seem to be missing - maybe look for a snipped light blue wire with red tracer.

Also, the tags on this one white on left reads "386" and the orange one on the right reads FoMoCo in square with C7ZB10B942G with "SX" below it.

The other images I posted above were out of '67 Shelby's - so with tach's.

No to off topic on my own thread but I have my 68 panel out and it's a C7 rather then a C8 and is missing the provision for the middle upper warning light (the hole for the brake light).

The harness on it does not have the main plug that would have for the wire to that light. That means that the main harness doesn't have it either.

Now my '68 is a Dec 67 build so both of these clusters are opening a can of worms for me.

There are "issues" with both that I don't want to deal with.  ::)

Thank you for posting the pictures of what you have JD.
