Title: Aluminum steering wheel hub.
Post by: Jbarela on April 19, 2021, 12:08:27 AM
Hey all, was the aluminum steering wheel hub only used on the 16 inch split spoke wheels? Can someone please post pics of an original aluminum hub, front and back please.

Thanks for the post! Great pics but that is the cast hub that is chrome plated. Looking for a pic of early aluminum hub.

Bob is always right.   I have no leads on where to get one, I am blessed that the one I have was still with the car when I bought it.   I am posting a couple of photos of the steering wheel in the condition before and after.  Dave Pearce brought it back to life for me.  MM

Here is a pic of an aluminum hub but with 12 holes two different wheel bolt patterns, one bolt pattern for the three hole wheel and another bolt patter for the slotted wheel. I dont know why or understand the two different bolt patterns.

Does anyone know if the 16 inch wheel and the 15 inch early 3 hole wheel share the same bolt pattern as the later slotted 15 inch wheel? As I read there are two versions of the three hole wheel, the difference between the two being in the spokes hole sizes and possibly the bolt patter as well.

I have not had a 3 hole wheel before. The 16 inch wheel I had was the same bolt pattern as the 15 inch wheel I had . The aluminum hub fit both.

Thank you bob that helps allot. I feel the aluminum hub I have is original but when, where and by who were the additional 6 holes drilled and tapped to fit this 3 hole wheel I have is a mystery. Another member is working on reproducing the 3 hole wheel and the wheel in his keep fits the cast S1MS bolt pattern but his is a variation of the three hole wheel that has holes a bit bigger than the holes on the wheel I have and another he has noted from another wheel.
